Hayes facing ban

June 02, 2009

Portumna and Galway star Kevin Hayes
Kevin Hayes is expected to miss Galway's Leinster SHC semi-final on June 21 following his sending off in last Sunday's facile win over Laois. The Portumna centre forward and Laois' James Young each received straight red cards for their part in a brawl which erupted between players from both teams just before half-time. Michael McEvoy of Laois was also dismissed for a second yellow card offence a few minutes later. Match referee Brian Gavin's report is due to reach the CCCC today and that will form the basis of the punishments. But both Hayes and Young can expect to receive a four-week minimum ban. Commenting on the brawl, Galway manager John McIntyre said: "I'm not going to condone anything that happened, but as a spectator, it wasn't much to look at after that - 14 men against 13."
