Cunningham takes Galway under 21 reins
March 21, 2009
Anthony Cunningham has been appointed manager of the Galway under 21 hurlers for the coming season.
Cunningham, who lost out to John McIntyre for the senior job last autumn, succeeds Vincent Mullins in the post. He will also manage top Westmeath club football side Garrycastle this year, having previously guided St. Brigid's to a three-in-a-row of Roscommon SFC titles as well as to a Connacht club success in 2006.
The former attacker holds the distinction of being the first player to captain Galway to two All-Ireland hurling titles. He skippered the Tribesmen to their first All-Ireland minor success in 1983, and captained them to All-Ireland under 21 glory three years later.
On his new appointment, he said: "I am really looking forward to it. I will finalise a management team in the coming weeks and we will put a panel together from there."
