Galway's full-time secretary steps down

September 21, 2018

Galway fans fly their flag.

John Hynes has stepped down as secretary of the Galway county board, citing personal reasons for his departure.

Hynes, who became the county's first full-time secretary at the end of 2011, contacted Galway GAA club secretaries last night to relay his decision and allow time for nominations for the vacancy to be filled at December's annual convention. Seamus O'Grady will fill the role in a temporary capacity until then.

His departure comes ahead of the release of a report into the finances of the county board. The report has already been forwarded to Croke Park.
