Castlebar Mitchels joint-manager Declan O'Reilly believes their slow start to extra time against Corofin cost them dearly.

The sides played out a titanic battle against the Galway champions last weekend which needed extra time to separate the sides, but ultimately, it was the Corofin who triumphed.

"That first period of extra time cost us," O'Reilly told the Western People. "They got a couple of scores and they got a few breaks on the kick-outs. We did everything we could to rectify it and get back into it, but it's just disappointing when you lose.

"I have such time for this bunch of lads, the effort they put in. I know it's a cliché to say that nobody knows the work but genuinely they don't. They committed their whole lives to this cause and we desperately wanted  to win that Connacht title, but we came up just short against a good Corofin team."
