Replying To realdub:  "First of all let me say I like Joanne, she's very good and will get better. But in the name of RTE's lefty agenda, Moloney was never going to get the gig, I'm surprised Panty Bliss didn't get it at this stage."
Lol Couldn't agree more I've worked in the industry my entire adult life and studied it for years before that There was no justification for her landing that gig ahead of far more seasoned and qualified broadcasters who enjoyed far more experience. It was an absolute strategic move made by RTÉ after suffering a lot of bad PR regarding gender inequalities It was a pat on the head move to appease the noise being made against them.

Marvelously joyous scenes today. A truly great Irish sporting moment. A historic day for Limerick GAA and all their fans and again what fantastic scenes at the end of the game. Caps off what was probably one of the greatest Hurling Championships of all time. Hope it's a great week in Limerick city and beyond.. enjoy! It's going to be some homecoming!!

Replying To extranjero:  "I just read Joe's article. Particularly loved this bit.... "My father, a veteran republican, fluent Irish speaker and traditional musician steeped in all things Gaelic quipped to me during the week, " Don't be too hard on the southerners Joe, some of them are almost as Irish as we are." " You've just gotta love anyone who co-opts specific aspects of a culture to infer their superiority over others, eh?"
Very well said. It's the same way the loyalists carry on up there.. They try so hard to be British. Ultra British!! Banging drums and marching about the place.. Look at me! Look at me! It's a very similar thing the other way around. There's many a super-duper Irishman up north and they make sure to let us know how great they are.. Look at me! I'm ohh so Irish... Well done you think you're more Irish.. I couldn't care less. I don't particularly think it's anything to be proud of.. Personally I don't like nationalism. It's an enclosed world and I grew out of that nonsense many moons ago. It just doesn't make sense. It's a big world and there's many aspects of other cultures that are superior to our own.

It's not on. Simple as that. But sure Ulsterman has called southern posters "free staters" on here in the past Many a time have I seen Ulster posters / country posters call their Dublin counter parts West Brits and Jackeens etc which always struck me as particularly strange especially coming from Ulster posters. It's the same discriminatory language used and for the same reasons. To insinuate that we're somehow lesser. Dublin posters call country posters culchies/mullahs/muckers Plenty of it gets floated about

Dublin have barely kicked a ball An away game against a team that always performs against Dublin (especially in the league) will no doubt be difficult I wouldn't be surprised if Monaghan got another good result against Dublin Tough opening trip but looking forward to it.

Hearsay, personal assumption/ conjecture / baseless conspiracy theory overload!! An awful lot of energy being spent on a topic that its fairly obvious that many on this thread have very little knowledge about yet (see above descriptiveness) some are preaching as if they are speaking undeniable fact. It's a very poorly administration gaff that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Donegal's wording aside.. at least they did something unlike the rest of yiz.

Yeah I heard Connolly goggled if he was allowed to touch a linesman but nothing came up about it so he said.. ah sure feck it! He has nothing to answer for if you ask me!

The 4 in a row - 7 Like(s)
Who can stop Dublin.. Dublin have already achieved a 3 in a row at a time when the game has never been at such a high level of performance Who can stop them achieving 4 on the bounce Another bunch of young lads to be introduced into the O'Byrne cup and league ROC might be back? Paddy Small shooting the lights out for Kickhams - this fella is very close to Con Numerous options from the Dublin U21 AI Champs to introduce, already established young lads blooded in 2017 with success but now carrying the ultimate experience And more than enough years and game time left in the older lads, look at how brilliantly Gavin handled his squad across 2017 Time to launch a very young and talented Dubs O'Byrne Cup and NFL Div 1 squads and carry the best into the championship panel With the players coming through I feel very confident of coming very close once again next year and there will be new and exciting options available. Mayo - still won't have the forwards, Kerry still won't have the defenders and Tyrone are just not a good enough team and especially with Sean gone If Gavin handles his business with such a high degree of excellence across early 2018 as he did in 2017 The 4 in a row is on. It's very much on indeed. Up the Dubs

Replying To KingdomBoy1:  "I take it you'll be watching the game at home on telly as usual jimmy boy, you're not one for traveling to games are you :-)"
Excuse me now! Haha I've travelled NSEW supporting Dublin but I'm no spring chicken anymore and as a family man I can't be getting to every game. I served my time when it was appropriate to do so and to that I can be sure. I'm sure you can't get to all the away games yourself despite best efforts but the advantage is Dublin are the big show and sure more often than not if I can't get to a game I'll have a plan b in place and watch it on the box or record it. I've been to Dublin club games, Charity games, O'Byrne cup and League games over the last few months and nope I wasn't at every single game granted but you see I've other stuff to juggle as I'm sure you do Chief. I've a family to consider and well I'm lucky to have such a problem. I mean Kerry fans are known for not travelling and I completely understand that. As you grow you've got to pick your battles and after being to the last two games.. 3 weeks on the bounce just isn't really doable for me anymore but good luck to those that have the time/freedom/drive to do so.

Dubs Drive For 5 - Who Can Stop It? - 7 Like(s)
So realistically who would you put as the top team to wrestle Sam away from the Dubs in 2019 and put a halt to the historic drive for 5 convoy. Just a few of my own opinions below. Tyrone have progressed and they gave Dublin plenty to think about up in Omagh. They are capable of hurting Dublin if Dublin drop their intensity, but the same old problems are still evident. Poor wides, lack of forward options and currently just not adventurous enough to beat Dublin. MH needs to overhaul his approach, They still have room to improve and perhaps learned a thing or two this year but it still looks very difficult for them to progress enough in time to stop Dublin. Although I fully expect to see Tyrone beating most teams in 2019. Out of all the top sides they'd be right up there as having the best chance but still a big ask. Galway were off the pace when it really mattered, a very poor performance at home against Monaghan and they couldn't live with Dublin in HQ over 70+ minutes. I can't see them progressing enough and they may just have a revitalized Mayo side to cause them plenty of trouble on their way. There's still the chance of progressing further in 2019 but I don't see them getting to the place where they can beat Dublin. Kerry with Keane now in place have lots of scope to improve after what was a poor 2018 for them. They still look very light at the back, overly reliant on DC up front in 2018 and Keane wants to play football and play to Kerry's strengths but that could leave them even further exposed back there. It's now a very young panel and out of all the top counties the least experienced. They've had a number of stabilizing and influential retirements and for me they are still a few more seasons away. I'd question just how good Kerry's minor teams were considering the complete lack of success outside of the minor grade for those Kerry teams (even with a top manager such as JOC in place) I think the top counties were targeting development to peak at U21/U20 making life much harder for Kerry as those same players found out. Still plenty of questions left to answer for Kerry and if I'm honest I'd be confident in Dublin beating them. It would be a truly great achievement for Keane to progress that young team to a point where they could beat Dublin (probably twice in the one Championship season) to halt Dublin's historic achievement. Monaghan had a good and bad 2018, very poor performances against Fermanagh (a game that a team with AI hopes shouldn't be losing) and a baffling tactical naivety against Tyrone for large parts left me really questioning their credentials in order to be good enough to beat Dublin, still room to improve but the gap is too wide for me to witness Monaghan being the team to stop Dublin. I still expect them to have a solid 2019 and no top team will relish the opportunity of playing Monaghan. Mayo now with Horan back opens up a few questions. Will Horan try and get the best out of an aging panel and go for one more big push or does he have a longterm plan in mind to get Mayo back to the very top table. Mayo for me currently have a shallow panel, a couple of injuries to key men was hugely detrimental in 2018. Parsons injury in particular was just a brutal moment and there's no guarantees he'll even play much ball next season. Horan needs to strengthen their options. It will be interesting to see but as it stands I'd probably give Mayo an outside chance to stop Dublin but even at that it will take a monumental one last push effort, Horan had some of the best Mayo players of all time in their prime when he first had them back in 2011. A lot of mileage since then. All in all.. If Dublin can remain as hungry and committed history is there to be made. I think there's room for improvement within the current Dubs panel and from a playing personnel stand point I can see Dublin being a better version compared to 2018.

Fair Play Tomás O'Sé - 7 Like(s)
I wonder if he'd be as vocal if it was a number of Mayo/Dublin young lads heading off? Many counties have lost talent to other sports, soccer, rugby etc. but it's never made much noise and its accepted, if a young man wants to play a professional sport because he has the talent to do so then he should do it! Why is it different when it comes to the AFL? Kerry lads just can't look beyond their own nose down there and then use their favourable media positions to go whinging. Build a bridge lads. We've all lost major prospects to professional sports.

Replying To browncows:  "No need to go back to the ice-age, a good understanding of the recent history of our island would be a good starting point and judging by some of your comments your may be gone past being educated on the said topic."
What recent events? Brexit border issues? The troubles? There was a peace agreement signed in 1998. There's has been vast improvements since, Our Taoiseach was up with the Orange Order last week. Things aren't perfect, it's a work in progress but again vastly improved. There was a recent poll suggesting that among young people the desire for a United Ireland is gaining popularity. This is progression. Focusing on the past is not going to bring on the peace process and enhance relations. I want to see an United Ireland but it won't be brought about by hard line Nationalism. Listen I've nothing but respect for the people up north and I have family on both sides of that particular divide. But what Ulsterman is suggesting here is very much up for debate and the chap has had an agenda on here for years. I've been directly called West Brit/jackeen/freestater/from the pale by Ulster/ country posters on this site I've never said anything on that level to an Ulster poster. There's plenty of discrimination bounded about and especially for Ulsterman given his own comments over the years to be bemoaning such is a bit rich.
