Facebook GAA Fan Pages

(Oldest Posts First)

Really shows the worst side of social media when it comes to GAA

It's a complete reversal in what you see on match day

10's of thousands of people with almost zero trouble

The way those fan pages descend...

You'd swear we are digging the heads off each other like soccer thugs back in the 1980's

No doubting that a few of them are good, and generally don't cause much fuss

But there are a number that doesn't do their counties much use at all.. Dublin very much included.

Now you have a few weirdos on here too, but thankfully the admin here boot out those freaks

I have voiced my opinion on these pages on another thread. Not all are bad but there are 2/3 pages that are not GAA. We can all have banter and everyone looses the run of themselves during the 70 minutes but for the most part fans of all teams are able to mix before and after games. The Keyboard warrior culture (which is not just a GAA fans thing) is the downside of social media. Every idiot has a soap box.

I "liked" a certain Dublin fan page and very quickly unlinked after reading some of the comments (not picking on Dublin, Tyrone are in the same boat). Uneducated on GAA. They just want "banter" and are extremely annoying. Not all but I would say most have never been in a GAA ground in their lives.

Look, Facebook is a platform for life's losers and cowards, for people who think that all their virtual friends would back them up and die for them in the same way that they type their support. it is digging it's own grave, slowly but surely.
Facebook only confirms that there is a substantial amount of self-centered idiots living among us.
