Dublin v Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Here we go again , this could be the end of our unbeaten run Mayo are flying and have pretty much all their big boys back apart from Aidan O Shea so you'd have to make them favourites right now, we can't really say what chance we have cause we haven't a clue what team jim will pick. How are Mayo posters seeing this one go?

Clondalkin sounds like you getting your excuses in early :)
We lost to Monaghan, beat Kerry playing well for one half and beat a terrible Roscommon team on the night.

It's true Mayo look to have more of a full pick to choose from so maybe it's time we finally beat Dublin. We have yet to beat Jim Gavin's team and it read's 9 looses and 3 draws across league and championship. I would like to see Andy Moran and Lee Keegan rested for this one.

Whatever the result, it has no bearing on championship and it in now ways gains revenge for us but maybe for morale.

Either team could win, hard to call.

If Dublin get the same goal chances that Mayo easily gave up to Roscommon, I see a Dublin win.

Dublin are a very hard team to beat, but it all depends which Dublin team starts

It will be very hard to beat Mayo with the team that started against Donegal

Hard one to call

I don't rate Roscommon, and I wouldn't judge Mayo's form based on their last game

But Dublin are just ticking over at present, both teams are not at their best

I'd fancy Dublin, but only if we bring in a bit more fire power up front and bring in more pace from the half backs

Should be a good game...

Feck it, I'll go for the draw!

We'll hopefully get a dry night and both teams can open up a little and play some ball.

Dubs gave Donegal and Tyrone plenty of chances to beat them. I'd expect that if the same chance is afforded Mayo they'll take it. Dubs will probably need an improvement to win.

I haven't seen any of Mayo's games as of yet so can't really comment on their form.

Well if the run is going to end this year, I hope it's on Saturday night, otherwise the Roscommon game will do fine :D

I'm expecting a Mayo win to be honest, look in better form, a couple of weeks fitter and Dublin have been playing largely experimental sides. Mayo I think will have more motivation.

Hopefully be a good game, they usually are.

I said on Dubs page I'd a suspicion that we may come undone this weekend , I also said it would be as a result of Gavins staunch belief in the end game , his desire to find out about players prior to a championship campaign , I made a prediction that should we lose some would be mightily upset with team selection , I just don't see him deviating from his process , for that reason we will have a hungry team sent out to win but not one full of the quality that's been there and done it , hope I'm wrong looking forward to the game

Hard to disagree Damo, with those two horrible months out of the way, and the clock going forward at the end of the month, it will almost be upon us. All the talk will be about will we/won't we do the big 3 in a row.
There will be no escape from it as much as any of us try to play it down, the pressure will be on!

Whilst I hope not - I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mayo come out on top at the weekend.

They currently have a more settled look about them than we have, and in my opinion they are playing better football than we currently are.

I know we are late back to the table in terms of fitness and training post 2016, but hopefully the hunger of the new younger lads may see us through.

It would also be good to see James McCarthy and Connolly get some game time also.

Have a little faith, lad! Haven't seen Dublin yet this year but I'd say Mayo are vulnerable enough themselves. There will be goal opportunities I'd see Dublin shading this one.

If Mayo show like they did at the back in the first half againts Kerry and overall a good few times againts Roscommon with a lot of goal chances, it'll be a goal fest or else Clarkie is gonna have to make up for lost time..

Fair point re goal chances , while I've already stated I think this is potentially the game that will end our winning run , if Mayo offer the goal chances they've afforded others our lot will gobble them up.

Can't see us winning this one without our first choice midfield partnership (though Parsons should be back). We're giving away far too many goal chances at the moment, so perhaps Rochford will go with a sweeper on this occasion.

Would like to see Loftus and Boland start, good to throw the young guns in up tops. Leave Andy on the bench til the final quarter, he doesn't need to be playing full league games at his age.

I expect mayo to end Dublin's winning run here. I think that they have an uncanny knack of great results, when it really doesn't mater.

Perception is flawed they say and this is especially true in sport. Some people who have seen bits of Mayo have this perception that Mayo are flying.
Bar 35 mins against Kerry and a first half against Roscommon, we have been pretty ordinary. We were awful v Monaghan.

Name some "great" Mayo wins when it really didn't matter?
