You did well to think of 2 from the hundreds of previous speeches

If you win an All Ireland you would not be to concerned about speeches and rightly so. The majority go to watch the game and are not bothered other add ons

There's very few good ones down through the years.

The 2 mentioned in the OP and Sean Og were all good. Didn't Paidi captain Kerry to an All-Ireland and make a pretty good one? Bryan Cullen's was decent as was McGeeney's.

To be honest, it's not often a team gets the spotlight and a chance to thank the coaches, jersey washers, sponsors, etc. so it's to be expected.

More entertainment in the post match interviews with the like of Bubbles or Donaghy.

You may call me bias but Peter Canavan's was excellent. Captured everything the people in Tyrone felt.

Lots of people care . And if you watch joe connollys spech 36 years on , on you tube its still spine tingling and makes you wish you were from galway. In fact many of these things matter more as time goes on. Its a legacy of a great occasion. For so many gaa supporters winning the all ireland is the ultimate , and this is a great platform to speak to them.

Most captains speeches are instantly forgettable.
The good ones I can recall are, Joe Connolly, Pat Fleury, Conor Hayes, Paudie O Se, Anthony Daly, Brian Cullen..

Dooher's, if only for the comedy value that when he switched from Irish to English, few people could tell the difference - good North Tyrone accent intact despite 5 years at vet college in UCD! Don't know about Canavan's Harte reference, but I bet a few Fine Gaelers squirmed when he compared Tyrone to the British Army, in case he might have gone on to say something "too Nationalist". Having only studied Ulster Irish, I didn't get much of O Cinneide's speech, but what made his speech a good one was the obvious intensity he brought to it - no amount of eloquence counts for much if there is no conviction and if a lad is just repeating bland clichés. It's a tall order though, most normal people would rather get a punch in the face than give a speech - we've all been at weddings with a drunk, petrified bloke trying to give a speech

Love hearing the entire speech as gaeilge I'm afraid whether Dublin or Mayo win in 2 weeks it will mostly be in English and be forgotten anout within a few hours, anyway it's a disgrace on our education system when people can't string a speech or conversation together in irish

I think a good speech can really enhance the occasion for the winners, but so long as the captain is forced to thank everyone and anyone itll be hard to have a good one.
"ah, id like to thank, ah id like to thank etc. etc. etc.".
Id like to see the pre game handshakes done away with as well. Those two sets of players couldnt even look at each other during the handshakes on Sunday.

That's soccer rubbish that has being brought into our game, take up your position and shake the hand of the man that you are marking and that will do

Tom Dee's still takes some beating.

Poor old Mr O'Sullivan never lived it down. Saying 'cupan' when accepting the cup was a hard blow, as he had said it in the Pass Irish class so often that poor old Tom rattled it out despite himself in the heat of the moment... in front of millions of people!
