To GAAGO or not to GAAGO

(Oldest Posts First)

Bit of a dilemma for tomorrow's match, trying to decide between using GAAGO, or paying $20 to watch it in a bar somewhere. I have a GAAGO season pass, but it has been hit and miss in my own opinion for alot of games this year. 2 weeks ago, the service was poor for the Kilkenny/Waterford replay on the Saturday. I debated whether to watch the Tipp/Galway game in a bar the next day, or rely on GAAGO again. I decided to stay home and use GAAGO, as I'd assumed they would have acknowledged the many complaints they got the previous day, and ensured the next day was better. But the Tipp/Galway game was unwatchable in different periods, starting/stopping, buffering, jumping, skipping. I know performance can depend a lot on location, people in France, for example, might have had a better experience than people in the North-East USA. But when I re-watched the game on demand later, the same skips were there.

I, like many others, logged stern complaints with GAAGO. But I'm not sure they're leading to any improvements. So I was just wondering, are many other people outside of Ireland, esp on US east coast, going to watch the game on GAAGO tomorrow, or go to a bar?

I have to say I've been happy enough with the GAAGO this year, and will watch the game on it tomorrow, although as I'm over 3hours drive from the nearest Irish bar here in Spain, I've little choice!
It might not be perfect, but Gaago is infinitely better than other dreadful sports sites I used to have to rely on. Either way, hope you enjoy the match tomorrow, and have good clean coverage for it aswell! :)

Lads, I'm here in Australia, mine was skipping and buffering a lot so I changed from Chrome to IE and it has been working grand since.

Also you can drop the resolution down a bit.

I had no issues with yesterdays game

I'm in the Middle East. No issues on the GAAGO at all yesterday. Does it not depend on the band width in your area?

I'm in Central Europe. GAAGO is generally a reasonable quality streaming service in my experience, and if you have problems with the buffering then adjusting the resolution on screen or maybe changing your browser usually works.

However, I do find it expensive compared to equivalent streaming services. For example, an Aussie friend of mine gets the AFL equivalent package for around a tenner per month, which is significantly cheaper than forking out for the GAAGO yearly subscription. I get Netflix for about eight euro month (which to be fair is a steal for what you're getting).

Still can't believe bars in the USA and Canada are still getting away with charging $20 to watch GAA in the Internet age. Someone told me once that it was Setanta reaping the proceeds from that income stream, not sure if it's accurate though.

I bought the package this year which includes League and Championship. All the matches have come through clear both audio and video.
Also I like that GAAGO shows parts of old matches and other GAA related history during the break. During the hurling Final there was video about the congress that changed Rule 42.

Maybe I should have held my fire on that comment! I got an email from GAAGO today telling me that I could get streaming of the All-Ireland senior final for €14 ($16 US), but after Friday that fee becomes €20. I can bundle the minor and senior game together (with highlights from the Sunday Game) for €25 ($30 in the USA).

Is it just me or are those prices not gouging? Especially given that the fee for annual subscriptions went from €120 to €160 previously. It gives lie to the line that the GAA spun before the Sky Deal saying that their primary motivation was the diaspora.

I have been using GAAGO from the start annual subscription, I started having problems this year with the league final, and in the Championship since the quarters finals the games have been unwatchable, if its not fixed by the All Ireland I won't be back next year.
