Fixtures, managers

(Oldest Posts First)

there is so much talk about club players,, intercounty games, fixtures ect, surely the solution to all this is very very simple, curp the power of the intercounty managers before its to late, players should be available to club 5/6/7 nights a month, its time to restrict the number of nights a county player is asked to train, reports that 1 county team was training 10 times a week last january ,if true, must be stopped, and if the gaa say they think they would not be able stop it, rubbish, they could stop it if the will was there, if they can spend 100s of millions on croke park dept free tey can curb teams training

Agreed. I hope the Mayo club players do flex their muscles and show the county board and the county manager what they think of the ridiculous situation that has happened up there. Anyone who thinks that 3 weeks break isn't long enough needs their head examined. It happens way too much and needs to be sorted by central council.

I thought in a lot of counties club delegates vote on who the county manager should be!? If so the first and most important question they should be asking any nominee is how often will our own club player be available to train and play with us. The clubs have much of the power, it's time they started using it.

its all about every county wanting to steal a march on other counties, im sure lots of counties would be willing to go down this road but wont unless all counties are doing it, this is not up to each county board it MUST come from croke park, the players do not belong to your counties manager and ONLY croke park can solve this

Doesn't happen that way in Cork. The executive interview the candidates and they decide. They also decide who applies (in reality).

The players don't belong to anyone, neither the county manager nor the club manager. They make their own choices and are responsible for their own choices. Many are choosing to follow the ridiculous instructions of county managers rather than telling them to shove their demands. Shefflin had a very good article on the plight of the club player last weekend.
