2 exceptional talents. Who do you regard as the better of the 2 or is there another you would rate as the best young hurler in the country? Brianmac78 (Dublin) - Posts: 1168 - 28/07/2016 21:00:53 1891719 Link 0 |
Glesson could become one of the greats of the game. Reminds me of Ken McGrath in a way. Has an awful lot the learn yet but is still so young.

Tony Kelly when his playing in the right position. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 28/07/2016 21:43:16 1891744 Link 0 |
I'd say Austin Gleeson. Couldn't believe it when I heard how young he is. He could get even better. ZeitChrist (UK) - Posts: 154 - 29/07/2016 00:12:58 1891805 Link 0 |

Austin Gleeson is the best talent I've seen break through since Joe Canning. An absolute joy to watch. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5012 - 29/07/2016 10:18:15 1891860 Link 0 |
Kelly for me, while there's no doubting both are outstanding hurlers, I think Kelly has a better temperament. bumpernut (Antrim) - Posts: 1852 - 29/07/2016 10:46:35 1891874 Link 0 |
Gleeson, gave the single greatest performance I've ever seen in an inter county match in the under21 final the other night. A beast Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 1909 - 29/07/2016 10:49:16 1891876 Link 0 |
Look at the space he was afforded v Tipp though, acres of space. Be interested to see would he be as effective against say TJ Reid or Hogan playing that loose game at 6. Tony Kelly for me. Brianmac78 (Dublin) - Posts: 1168 - 29/07/2016 11:16:21 1891894 Link 0 |
If I was picking one right now I'd go with Kelly. But when Gleeson matures he will be better. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 29/07/2016 15:43:13 1892027 Link 1 |
Kelly for me as he is more the finished article, Gleeson will be a great player - but a lot depends on how well Waterford do to. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4896 - 29/07/2016 20:26:06 1892106 Link 0 |
Whatever. But the facts are, Kelly won't be playing any more inter county hurling this year. While Gleeson has two semi-finals to look forward to.

Tony Kelly for me, two great talents, in same league as greats like TJ Reid roscommon1944 (Roscommon) - Posts: 275 - 30/07/2016 19:30:40 1892429 Link 0 |
In the same league? TJ Reid won 2 Senior All-Irelands before he turned 21.

What's your point? TJ Reid plays for Kilkenny, that they won 2 All-Irelands before he was 21 is irrelevant. A Gleeson might never win one. That doesn't mean he couldn't be one of the greatest players ever. 1914 (Clare) - Posts: 92 - 30/07/2016 23:37:24 1892606 Link 1 |
Stupid comment. Ken mcgrath, john mullane, tony brown, ciaran Carey, mark foley etc etc never won all irelands. Does that mean every player with an all Ireland medal is better than them? Is donal o Donovan from clare better than all them? Is john o shea better than Steven Gerrard cos he won multiple premier leagues??
