Fermanagh's first goal?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I thought it was a terrible decision by the officials to allow that first goal. I cannot understand why the goal was allowed. My guess is the officials for their part were showing sympathy to the underdog but surely that is very unfair on Dublin. Fair is fair? Thoughts?

PS: Mods please allow this thread as it a major talking point.

Jokeshop of a decision. You win some you lose some but that could cost a team the game. Just not good enough. Do these people even know the rules???

Disgraceful didn't matter n the greater scheme of things today and managers pundits etc can have a good old laugh about it ... but it wasnt so funny few years back when louth louth lost leinster final in similar circumstances referees umpires and lines men having major impacts on games it's unfair on teams who are putting on huge efforts .... seriously needs to be looked at by the gaa

No ifs or buts as Fermanagh's fiest goal was warranted and the official should have had no hesitation in raising the green flag. If Fermanagh had have scored by the number of wides they had, then Dublin would have been knocked out of the championship. So a lesson there for the Dubs whom the media seemed to praise more than they deserve!! Next up Mayo to whack Donegal! And Monaghan to whack Tyrone!

At this stage of the Championship all referees involved should be from neutral counties, i.e. those not involved in the running for serious honours.

Goal of the season. Pure mischievousness on the part of big Quigley - the grin on his face afterwards was priceless. It was an inept piece of officiating, of course, but as my wife put it, he'll never have to buy a pint for himself again in Fermanagh. Legend.

IMO Cluxton charged out into Fermanagh player expecting to get a free and just bounced back off him over the line. Perfectly legit goal and certainly livened up the stadium.

Lets clear one thing up, this was not a decision for the umpires. The umpire was wrong not to put up the green flag to indicate the ball had crossed the line. It is entirely the ref to decide if it is a foul or not, which in this case it clearly was under rule 5.9 (a)

5.9 (a) : To charge ( in a manner otherwise permissible on an opponent ) the Goalkeeper in his small rectangle.

Worst decision i've seen since the Sheridan goal versus Louth. Absolutely appalling piece of officiating. Its been said before from numerous quarters but there is a real crises in terms of the standard of refereeing in Gaelic Games. Perhaps a then acceptable leftover from a bye-gone era but the mentality of 'keeping a weaker team in it with frees' is an absolute slap in the face to the effort players put in.

Fermanagh deserve credit for having a go and i applaud them for that, McGrath could of easily of set up like Westmeath in the Leinster Final, but an incredible amount of bias shown today.

Rubbish decision, it is incredible ineptitude at this level, players expect better than that.

"Appalling" "Jokeshop" "Worst decision since 2010" "Terrible"

Why is it that only the referee gets it in the neck like this when he gets it wrong?

To my eyes Cluxton's air kick for the second goal was as big a howler, though equally amusing, & yet I haven't seen a post, let alone a thread, taking lumps out of him for it.

Players make errors all day long, managers likewise but only the officials get the sort of flak that I see here.

Everyone is human, everyone gets it wrong sometimes, such is life.

Odd decision, thank god it had no effect on the result.

Does the ref not know the rules??

that had to be the worst refereeing performance in living memory!!!!!!!!!
in the entire first half he awarded dublin ONE yes ONE free
and I dont mean scoreable free I mean one free anywhere on the park
despite being fouled time after time when attacking
It was disgraceful stuff and down right cheating
at one stage brian fenton rose a clear foot above the fermanagh player on a kick out
with both hands in the air and palmed the ball clear as day with both hands
and the ref somehow contrived a free for a push in the back
now unless he has another hand somewhere its impossible to do.
I was told we were awarded four frees for the entire game
and one of those was the last kick of the match.
the first fermanagh goal was almost as bad as the joe sheridan incident
he clearly pushed him in the chest across the line
what was worse quigley was shown clear as day laughing on the big screen about it.
Its not exceptable at this level that a ref can be this biased and not go unpunished.

I'd say Jo Sheridan has had many a pint since his try in 2010 also around Meath. In this case fortunately it mean't nothing. I thought Cluxtons reaction was poor when he was approached afterwards by the Fermanagh goalscorer. He didnt like it one bit. It did liven up the game but Dublin were very professional overall with their display. Plenty of bite there when needed.

The ref and umpires sole job is to apply the rules according to the rule book muck. They get paid for this. The players can make as many mistakes etc as they like. That's sport. There is no excusing decisions like this when you are so close to the play

Quigley has had his say on this goal... comical.

"I think Stephen made an attempt to push me out of the way. He stumbled back into the goals.

"I don't know what happened, he must have lost his footing or something.

But it's not just this decision jackeen. It's every week.

These people are human, they will make mistakes. Going bananas about it on a constant basis will only leave us, in the end, with no refs & then where will we be.

As for refs and umpires getting paid, I don't know what they get but I'm sure it won't make rich men of them.

I think this goal is legitimate. Quigley tried to knock the ball out of Cluxton's hands. Cluxton stepped backwards.
Here is a clip. The collision between Quigley and Cluxton is at about 56 sec.
