Longford

If Longford beat Kildare they will leapfrog Meath as having the 3rd best championship record after Kildare and Dublin for the past 10 years I believe? This is some achievement for such a small county! Also shows what can be done with good organisation at underage etc.

Being a Derry man I can vouch for Longford being a good team. Great to see and without any complaining about population or money

If they could somehow get over Kildare and get lucky in the draw and get Sligo, then they're in the last 8!!

Think its westmeath and cork/kerry who will go to the A side of the draw.

How would Longford leapfrog Meath??

Sure Meath have won a Leinster title, reached a few finals, got to two All-Ireland semis in the last 10 years.

Longford have not achieved any of this.

Dublin aside, there are a few teams in Leinster around the same standard, there isn't a whole lot of difference in the level of Louth, Offaly, Longford, Westmeath, Kildare, Laois, Wicklow, Wexford and Meath.

Sorry I should have clarified. Basically Longford will have a better win ratio than Meath based on all championship games played in the past 10 years or so. This includes Leinster and qualifiers. I am not saying they are better than Meath or indeed Wexford but their record is admirable and statistically better than Meath if they beat Kildare.

Unless I've made a mistake over the last 10 years (11 seasons, starting with 2005) Meath's win ratio is 57%, Longford's is 42% presuming they beat Kildare that is, we've won 30 out of 53 games whereas Longford have won 16 out of 38.

this is a much poorer longford team then the one during the late 00s but as long as they keep getting soft draws they have a chance!..some good young players on the team now that werent started against dublin oddly enough

meh kind of a nothing thread, pulling statements from stats can hide a multitude. longford are basically an average football team but will not threaten to win an all ireland r leinster in next 5 years. no real point to this, sure if meath were in qualifer rd 1 every year they would prob win a lot of the games too

obviously they arent gonna win an all ireland..do you realise how small a county longford is?..,meath have a huge population and spend their time moaning about the dubs..at least longford are a county making the best of what they have..if kildare and meath did likewise then leinster would be a lot better

Good man fabio well said and I totally agree. Meath and Kildare really have no excuses for not giving Dublin a better challenge.

Only a small minority moan about the Dubs, most Meath fans understand the real problems..

this is a very gifted dublin team but to be that far behind and meath and kildare have been off the top sides for quite a long time now...id hope so ziggy cause i see too many meath fans on here moaning..the ones who should feel aggrieved by the dubs are the minnows like longford and westmeath and so on...who are lightyears behind the dubs in terms of resources..and well behind kildare and meath for that matter

Bit of a sweeping statement there fabio, we don't all moan about the Dubs, personally I don't like to see Meath fans moaning about them anyway, I see it as an excuse.

As ziggy pointed out, our problems are a lot closer to home, we have to get our own house in order, that's the real issue.
