We had an old gentleman down here in Portarlington by the name of McEvoy. He played for both Offaly and Leinster and was by all accounts a brilliant footballer. However, he was simply known as "Chunk". Just got me wondering is there many other past and present day footballers and hurlers out there with such unsual nicknames?

Leighton Glynn's nickname is Ginnet. The best nickname I ever heard was Bungalow. I won't say who it's about - he's called it because he has nothing upstairs! !

We have a lad in Westmeath and his nickname is "The Dude"

During the sports news on a radio station earlier this year they made reference to him as David "The Dude" McCormack.

Where would you get it!

When 'the gooch' was growing up there was a doll called a 'goochy' doll. It had the same red hair as him. Hence the nickname.

CJ 'Lesnar' Molloy

A former New York player and nephew of 1992 Donegal All-Ireland winning captain Anthony Molloy. Scored a wonder goal for Ardara against Glenswilly in the Donegal SFC at the weekend.

He was given the nickname 'Lesnar because of his enormous traps, bearing resemblance to heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

GAA nicknames are one of my pet hates, especially when posters on here use them as if they're best mates with the lads.
