Hurler of the Year 2014

Predictions/thoughts on Player of the Year 2014.

Realistically you need to be reaching at least the All-Ireland semi-finals to be in with a shout at Player of the Year. Also it's usually a forward or midfielder that wins it (JJ, Seán Óg and Tommy only winning defenders since 2000). Based on that I am struggling to see past one of the following winning it:

Tony Kelly
Conor McGrath
TJ Reid
Paul Murphy
Patrick Horgan
Richie Hogan
Seamus Harnedy
Patrick Maher
Colin Fennelly
Liam Rushe
Danny Sutcliffe

Based on performances in 2014 TJ and Colin Fennelly are well ahead of the pack. But, there's a long summer ahead.

So Limerick and Galway can't win the AI for you?

in fairness its impossible to pick a winner, very little would have picked tony kelly as hoty this time last year, imo 7 teams have a chance, dublin, kilkenny, galway, limerick, clare, tipp and cork..... if limerick win the all ireland someone like kevin downes could be hoty

I think only 2 of those teams have a realistic chance. 3 at a push

Paul Shiels - played very well in all outings so far and leading the top scorer table by a long shot.

Honestly, no I don't think Galway or Limerick will win the All-Ireland. I don't take pride in saying that, but that's my opinion.

He'll definitely be from either Cork or Kilkenny.

Kilkenny - Jackie Tyrell, Richie Hogan or Colin Fennelly
Tipperary - Bonnar Maher or John O'Dwyer
Cork - Shane O'Neill or Alan Cadogan

Limerick's stand out men for what's it worth were Richie McCarthy, Seamus Hickey and Shane Dowling but it's hard to see a player from one of the beaten semi-finalists getting even a nomination for HOTY.

Richie Hogan for me. If Limerick had won i could not see past Seamus Hickey. He put on exhibitions in the four games Limerick played, keeping, McGrath, Horgan, McGovern and Reid to a handful of scores from play. I actually think off hand his men scored 3 points from play in four matches.

Richie Hogan, that is all.

Realistically it's Richie Hogans to lose. It would take a terrible performance form him in the final, along with a great performance from TJ/Fennelly or two great performances from Callanan/Bonner/Bubbles/Horgan/Harnedy/ for him to lose it.

I think the betting reflects this:

Richie Hogan 5/6
Seamus Callinan 6/1
Patrick Horgan 6/1
TJ Reid 7/1
Colin Fennelly 10/1
Patrick Maher 10/1
Seamus Harnedy 14/1

The 5/6 on Hogan is buying money.

Hurling1Guru1

where did u compile that list from ???

TJ REID
LIAM RUSHE
DANNY SUTCLIFFE
AND SERIOUSLY TONY KELLY ??????

Where was hickey from limerick. Lee chin from wexford
Players that actually deserved to be considered for the nomination

Realistically the player of the year will be involved in the All IRELAND FINAL
So where are two from each team

Kilkenny Hogan / colin Fennelly
Cork Walsh/ Horgan
Tipperary Bonner maher/ calnane

Some spellings could be wrong.

But certainly no one from Dublin or clare could even be considered to a man they were shocking this year

But through out the whole championship the stand out players were
Hogan kk
Walsh ck
Maher tp

Dowling by streets. Gave Delaney a torrid time last Sunday. Had five points from play versus Cork. Had 2-9 vs Tipp and tore Wexford apart with 2-10 or so. Not even a contest.

this list was done in June.

Realistically, only the 3 teams left have players that are going to get it.

Hogan is the obvious favourite. If KK win it, then regardless of final performances by him or his team mates then he will win it.

Cork are such a good "team" that you'll get it hard to pick one single player from there team if that makes sense. Depends on next two games however. I think Harnedy has been slightly their most important player this year.

Tipps best players for me have been Barret, Callinan, Bonner and the most under rated Bubbles (very similar to Mullane in his early days - consistently averaging 4-5 points per game.

All depends on next 2 games.

Best performance by a single player in years goes to Seamus Hickey. Deserves an All Star on that performance alone
