Lads over the past few months I feel that HS as it used to be has all but gone. It seems to be that one replies to the county of origin of a poster rather than the poster. Any chance of debate is always scuppered by the many wind up merchants floating from thread to thread stirring (we all know who they are). How can this be resolved? Perhaps doing away with the county of origin might improve it?

Good on you for raising this Jackeen and its a valid point, you only have to look at the number of Dublin related threads floating around at the moment mostly started by...................non Dubs! I don't think your solution would work for 2 reasons (1). Most of us are well known on these boards as are our counties and (2) it wouldn't take long to suss out the county affiliations of a newbie. The board has become somewhat formulaic in that any thread starts off with good intentions but will inevitably decend into an inter-county brawl without addressing the points raised by the thread in the first instance.

Indeed I've been guilty of a few myself but I see where you are coming from. Every post is being dragged down. Some people only feel the need to contribute when the thread is about certain counties. When somebody openly declares their hatred they cannot be taken seriously. They cannot be depended on to post objectively.

Might I suggst a seperate forum for those who wish to indulge in the wind up. I don't mean to take the crack out of the whole thing but ALL threads are being dragged off topic by people with agendas.

Completely agree. I know they have a hard job and am grateful for the free service they provide but I think Admin need to step up in this situation because some of the stuff that goes up would never ever in a million years have been allowed a few years ago. Perhaps they are getting an unreal amount of rubbish and a small % is slipping through the gaps but when they intervened in the Ballymun thread I thought that was curious as that thread was no different from every other thread on here.

Ye was thinking it wouldn't work too well. We'd all have to change our usernames etc and you're right of would be pretty obvious what county you support after a while. Look I can dish it and take it but my sole purpose on HS is to discuss our games. It's fairly obvious that not all posters are here for that reason. How about 3 strikes or you're out? As doublehop says, admin have taken welcome steps to stop threads going off topic and it is helping but we need more of a deterrent. Maybe some of us can become moderators? After all admin can't do everything!

Does anyone remember the Hogan stand Union parties we set up a few years go - great craic but maybe a few of us old heads need to but our "heads" together and come up with ways to improve HS and then sent to management.

Funny I think the non- GAA forum allowed poster to vent stuff there and focus on sport in the GAA/soccer threads. Since that forum went everybody seems to vent through the GAA forum.

Good points made by Jackeen, for example someone (usually not from Dublin) starts a thread on the dubs and it explodes into an anti Dublin tirade. Another example from my own county is one of the usual wind up merchants makes a comment and the tread is then used to batter Mayo and our finals record with....YAWN!!!!

We all know this is going on.

It's as simple as that. Posters are alot less intelligent now and are more interested in sly digs than anything else. It's sad. Patrique would be turning in his grave. Alot of you wouldn't remember Patrique, He was an absolutely amazing poster here. Superb man.

This place is missing the NON-GAA/sport forum something shocking.. alot of quality posters left when HS got rid of the non gaa forum. And it's sad. This used to be a lively place with intelligent debate. Unfortunately its all gone down hill since. I understand that the non gaa forum went a bit far but even so it was brilliant craic. Now its just dull ..

They asked about that before for posters to help out for spotting bad language etc and it would be treated anonymously but the first time I helped out they posted my comment so I thought feck that craic.

Jackeen its no co-incidence that the majority of the old guard have left us.
Theres very few of the originals left at this stage which is a shame because we have lost some real star debaters.
The one thing I will say tho Jackeen is you might be looking back a little thru rose tinted glasses

WUM's have always been around. The trick is to know them and ignore them. There are many here I disagree with, many whose opinions I will never see eye to eye with, but on the whole I still think the majority here are ok. There are 3 or 4 absolute tools of the highest order, and I have as recently as today fallen into the trap of going up against them, when I know well that I am wasting my time. Its the same for you or Benny, Sedico, Breffni, Brend etc etc, all decent posters who allow ourselves to be dragged down at times by the clowns

I think the real solution is for us to cop on. The genuine posters. We are as much the problem. If we didnt react to the clowns, they would go away.

Make sense??
