While obviously it's very sad for Beckham that he will miss the World Cup and probably never play for England again does anyone else think it will actually be good news for England? While there's no doubting his quality through the years he just can't cut it anymore, couldn't help but feel that his probable inclusion would simply have been more a reward for his years of service to England than what he could actually bring to the team. It opens up a space to someone who is probably more deserving and can bring more to the squad, Johnson or Young etc. Hope it isn't the end for Beckham though, he mighn't have been the fastest or the most skillful but is undoubtably one of the best dead-ball specialists football has ever seen pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 15/03/2010 10:55:00 588171 Link 0 |

Your probably right in the playing aspect but England will miss what he brings off the field. IMO Capello likes having Becks around because he takes alot of the media glare away from the other players. Johnson at city should definatly be taken but wont i think whereas young (who's performances recently have been average at best) probably will, reputation means alot miketyson (Limerick) - Posts: 2748 - 15/03/2010 11:30:48 588228 Link 0 |

Agree with all that PP. He was a great player, but I didn't see the value in England having him in the world cup squad. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12494 - 15/03/2010 11:55:33 588281 Link 0 |

Alas for brand Beckham, this is the loss of a valuable marketing outlet, nothing more, nothing less. Mrs Beckham will have to cancel her planned visit to a south african orphanage now, less. brendtheredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 10897 - 15/03/2010 12:12:54 588307 Link 0 |

Why people are talking about the English national football team on a GAA forum is beyond me. CheFinny (UK) - Posts: 1358 - 16/03/2010 10:18:12 589383 Link 0 |
