The new Cork manager - coach

(Oldest Posts First)

Who is going to get the job or who wants the job ? John Cleary should have got the job after Connor Counihan the question is now if he was offered the job would he take it ? I doubt it

Cork could do worse than look outside the county.
If Clearly wants it he probably deserves it but I think an outsider might be better option.
Probably would depend on what kind of reception that got within the county and clubs but it might yield fruit in the end. The county board are an awkward shower to work with too so that might reduce the amount of candidates.

O'Connor has been managing the Kerry U-21s and going forward will be the Kerry U-20 manager so that's him ruled out.

What about James Horan? Would be a good shout if you're looking outside the county

He hates Cork. Hinted at same in his book. A bitter man.
Also not a chance in earth would Cork take him a stance with which I would strongly agree with. Not so long ago people were suggesting an outside Manager also for the Hurling Team.

I can't believe all this talk of looking outside your own county for a manager, and this would go for the Donegal team too. Don't you have enough good football men in Cork and Donegal? Surely finding a manager from within your own county's won't be that hard and they'll always have more desire to succeed than an outsider and that's a fact.

What a curiously closed mindset, not befitting the culture & values of the GAA .............. I guess Sean Og was lucky to be accepted too!"
Slayer......silly comment....not befitting your otherwise good commentary on hurling subjects!

Cork County Board need to be in the Super 8. Loss of potential revenue could be huge. To ensure against this the Cork Co. Board need to just ring up Malachy O'Rourke and offer him €100k plus win bonuses ........problem solved....

The "poison chalice" that is management of Cork football would be best served by importing a manager! Playing with the Cork County Board mindset would suggest someone who has no past baggage with the said board would be the best and more professional option. I believe we should look to our greatest enemy and neighbour for future success. Cuthbert and Healy, honourable men, were not the popular choice so never really stood a chance. Nothing better than a Kerryman to put it up to his own......my choice as Jack O'Connor not available....Pat O'Shea (Dr Crokes)...the most professional club in the country. BTW....Tomas O Se suggestion of Billy Morgan....lunacy!

I am not against a Kerryman taking over Cork but I dont see where Jack O Connor or Pat O Shea would have the interest, no matter what they got offered. They have done it with Kerry so couldn't see them having the hunger for Cork

Whereas Tomas O Se possibly is only starting out in coaching thus would have the hunger and drive to manage Cork and do well so to put himself in the ring for the Kerry job in time to come. You scratch my Cork, I will scratch your back relationship with Cork that could work out beneficial to both.
But maybe Tomas has been too critical of the Cork player in the press thus I dont think he would get all the players rowing in the one direction with him.
John Cleary has done tremendous work with Cork underage but would he command the respect by the players to put their body on the line game in ,game out?
