Greatest Football Q-Final Ever?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Any thoughts as the Q-finals rise on the horizon?

They've been with us since 2001 and while my own county Kerry has been involved in every Q-final round since they existed, there has been a far few of them to forget (2013 v Cavan, 2011 v Limerick and 2016 v Clare spring to mind!!)

Still there has also been some crackers.

Personally I think Kerry v Armagh 2006 was the best one.

Was the Galway v Kerry game in the lashing rain a quarter final? That was a great game.

2008 and it was magnificent and surreal in equal measure.

It was so wet by the time the game ended, that just walking back to O'Connell street my mobile in my pocket was soaked through and never worked again.

Dublin v Kerry drawn game in 2001 for the drama at the end and our couple of late goals only for Maurice the great with THAT sideline point to level it. Down v Kerry in 2010 as nobody really expected it and the scenes and atmosphere that evening was amazing....And that was from the Hill ;)

Fermanagh against Armagh in 04 I think too was brilliant to watch, Wexford v Armagh in 08 also. The Meath v Westmeath saga in 2001 too.....Meath's never say die attitude definitely coming to the forefront there. Recent one would be last year with Tipp destroying Galway with some amazing football and I'm glad I went to it even though the Galway wife wasn't too happy with the result.

Tyrone-Dublin 2005 replay, some noise when Dublin attempted a comeback at start of second half.

And just in case there is no thread for best semifinal, 2005 Tyrone v Armagh, Canavan with the winner, sweet revenge for the Ulster final debacle.

For me personally has to be Meath v Westmeath . Who can forget dessie Dolans last kick from little over 20mt line straight in front of goal, and he hits it wide, 120 years of pain was on my shoulders everything went blank I kicked the ball totally wrong, and it just went wide, dessie words.
Coming through kinnegad on way home, car bedecked in Meath colours was one of the most adrenaline journeys of my life ,into work next morning and I was spotted by a co worker with my Meath jersey off swinging it over my head after the miss, he wasn't impressed, I didn't give a rats behind :). Then the replay in portlaoise the missed penalty by dessie and within 1 minute the goal by Joe, ahh what fun. My god it was fantastic.

Being of a totally biased opinion the 08 win against Armagh.. the football was horrible but when that whistle went and my father started going now you understand now you understand it was worth it.

Plus that point by Forde after the goal out by the sideline when he pushed bellew aside was just mattie in his pomp and what a privilege it was to see that man score

Biased I know but Donegal v Kildare in 2011 gets my vote.

Most people who trace the "death" of football to the game that followed it, forget this epic with Cassidy's Hail Mary the high point.
