Killkenny vs Waterford (hurling)

This will be a match to look forward to. I expect a classic like last years matches, I'm going for a Waterford win here though.
Waterford 2+

Cody is enjoying this watching his team been written off and some household names who can play better.
They made hard work of beating Limerick but I really can't see Waterford knocking them out at this stage.
Kilkenny to scrape home by 2 points I think it will be a dog fight and they just edge it.

A brilliant win for our under 21s, with several senior panellists, against Wexford tonight, hopefully it will give the seniors a much needed boost in advance of Saturday night. On the basis that there are several Kilkenny players due a big performance, I'll go for a Kilkenny win in a tight game, 1-21 to 1-19.

Write the cats off at your peril, 2 Leinster titles in 3 days - rumours of their demise....
The big question is, where is this Waterford team - somewhere between the abject display v Cork, and the easy victory v Offaly.
I think ballydalane is right, Cody is loving the team being written off and just like Mick Ryan will have his eyes on the 2nd Sunday in September still.

Kilkenny looked nervous against us.

Waterford have a massive chance here, the same chance that Limerick had. We failed to take it. If Waterford fail, then Kilkenny will have 2 Munster scalps under their belts, the sides they beat in the 2007 & 2008 All-Ireland finals. They will be a threat to anyone if they get over Waterford.

However I'm going for a narrow Waterford win here by 1-21 to 2-16.

Very little talk on here about this game. Very hard to call. I can't see a classic but can see a dog fight and perhaps ET. I'd expect Lester Ryan might start for KK possibly at the expense of Richie Hogan. If Cody is as ruthless as ever, he won't start him. Cody will be reasonably happy after the last game, especially with positions 1-8. Cillian Buckley has the potential to be a brilliant centre back.
There's no question that this is Waterford's chance but they need to sort their team and positions out. KK will gobble up ball if they use negative defensive tactics.

Won't be going near the bookies for this one but I'll go KK by 1 after ET

Confident enough at what Kilkenny will bring , less so with Waterford thus making a prediction dangerous , 9 times out of 10 you would go with tried and trusted and in this case Kilkenny , however that's to do a bit of a disservice to Waterford who are a fine side with some fantastic players , will go with Waterford would fear for them long term if they cant do the Cats

Fancy Waterford for this one.
Could be the day the likes of Patrick Curran makes his mark on the intercounty stage

Correct Limerick man.
Limerick had the chances to take the game (Quaids save aside) but some players took the wrong options, shooting from way out, poor passing and so forth BUT the much maligned Limerick fullback line won most of the battles against their esteemed Kilkenny opponents and that must be a big concern for Cody. The free scoring forwards aren't there any more. Mick Fennelly needs to be kept in cotton wool and fed ambrosia with pretty Kilkenny maidens tending to his every whim as he's central to the Cats having a prolonged summer of hurling.

Waterford, who knows!! They're the better team on paper but paper isn't where the game will be played. Expect Shanahan to stay deep on the edge of the square with a much smaller Paudraig Walsh for company. If only the Waterford full forward line would stay up the pitch and let the midfield and half forwards do the grunt work further down the park. That way there's an out ball for the defenders to play whereas now it must be soul destroying for Maurice to be left up there on his own. He'd the better of Cahalane early doors, but no support. Same thing happens again on Saturday evening the the Cats will prevail yet again

Waterford went mano-a-mano on us last year and should have won first time out (and almost brought relay to extra time). Hopefully they'll do the same this time and we should get a good match. If they need to deploy a sweeper against this current Kilkenny forward unit then God help them.

Waterford wont win because:

a. They dont score enough goals;
b. the dont have or trust their inside forward line leading to a above.

Been saying the same for the last few years. Could also be the reason (scoring goals) Galway wont win the All Ireland tho

We'll not know that about Galway until they've to go chasing the game with 10 minutes on the clock. So far they haven't needed to.

This is the best chance Waterford will ever have of beating Kilkenny and they just have to take it. I can't stand all this talk about never writing off Kilkenny and how they are at their most dangerous when little is expected of them. This Kilkenny team is simply not as good as any other in the Brian Cody era and if they go much further in the championship, it will be a shocking indictment of the ability and ambition of all of the other so-called leading counties.

Yeah I agree Gaillimh, it's time for Waterford to take down Kilkenny. 1959 is too long ago now.

Even if Waterford crashed out a quarter final or semi final stage afterwards, beating Kilkenny would give them something to build on for next year.

I get the sense that Kilkenny fans in South Kilkenny like to head into Waterford city to remind the locals of the fortunes of the two teams over the last number of decades. A win for Waterford tomorrow could see a dramatic decline in KK reg cars driving over the new bridge for a while.

Hunt or be hunted Waterford, now is your time to shine. 2013 and 2016 will be forgotten quickly.

Kilkenny team announced. The same fifteen that started against Limerick. I'm a bit surprised at that, I thought there might have been a couple of changes. Ah well, Cody and team know best.

I concur. A very poor Limerick team had them for the taking at Nowlan Park last weekend. I believe Waterford are way ahead of Limerick & should be well able to take the spoils unless Kilkenny find form from somewhere not seen thus far in 2017.

Hard to know what way this will go.
Waterford should have enough to beat Kilkenny but until they do it the question will continue to linger.
They should have beaten them last year if they had that small bit of composure and experience but when it was there to be won they just looked a bit lost at sea.
This evening's game should be close again and a goal could be the difference.
