Qualifiers -- Cavan v Tipperary.

Kind of hard to call this one.
Tipp last year's beaten semi-finalists and unlucky against Cork this year losing by a single point. Missing a few players through injury but still a very good side.
Cavan beaten by Monaghan by a goal but to many they were flattered by the score as Monaghan had 15 wides. Beat Offaly easily enough after a close first half.
Betting - 4/11 Cavan, 11/4 Tipperary. I don't see it as that clear-cut.
Opinions folks.

Hard to see us winning this one without Quinlivan. We'd had too many injuries and withdrawals from last year and back then we were down about 10 players from 2015.

A vital game for Cavan. I really think they need to go on some sort of run this year to keep the momentum from the successful U21 teams going. The last two years has seen progress in the league, but early championship exits.

I thought Tipp were poor enough against Cork, and don't seem to be at the same level as they were last year. Cavans tactics were too restrictive against Monaghan, although the Farney were the better team on the day regardless. With home advantage and a season of division one football under their belts, I can see Cavan win a close match

Tricky one to call, it should be an interesting match, going for a Cavan win though.
Cavan 2+

Cavan slasher, had we no wides in the Monaghan game at all?

Its Cavan's to lose Tipp with too many injuries something we avoided last year and were able to play same 15 almost every game. We should have beaten Cork and now we will pay the price.

Yeah it's strange to point out Monaghan kicking 15 wides. That's par for the course for Monaghan. Unless McManus is the one shooting it's a complete lottery.

Tempting odds for Tipp but cant see us pulling it off. Down Quinilvan and Acheson from last year as well as McDonald and Austin.....4 of our best players and leaders. Sweeney will need to score heavily to have a chance.
In theory Cavan should win comfortably

Cavan need to win this one. It is now they need to show the benefits of playing in Division One. For progress to be made they need to go further in the Qualifiers and not lose to a team below them in the league.

so who all is injured for Tipp that would be playing. also who is not on the panel this year that would normally be playing.

The match-day panel that played against Cork seemed fairly good. perhaps they are as good as what they have replaced. 11/4 for Tipp is great odds.

From the 15 that started against Mayo:

1. Commerford is suspended
2. O'Shaughnessy has been plagued with injuries and only getting cameos this year.
4. McDonald is out injured too.
8. Acheson is overseas
11. Quinlivan is injured
15. Austin is injured

Before the Cork game the following were injured too: Paddy Codd, Ian and Kevin Fahey,Jack Kennedy, Willie Connors and Emmet Moloney. The last three were members of the 2015 minor team that lost the all-Ireland to Kerry. O'Connell went off injured against Cork too.

If you look af the Tipp team that played Tyrone in 2015, we are down the following players too:

Seamus Kennedy, Ger Mulhair, Colin O'Riordan, Steven O'Brien, Barry Grogan. You are talking a lot of experience and ability with those 5.

The team performed heroics last year and they should take great pride form it but this is too much of a challenge this year.

That said, you'd hope the likes Campbell, The half back line, Hannigan, Fox, Keane and Sweeney carry the fight to Cavan. I'd be shocked if Cavan don't double up on Sweeney.

We hadn't nearly as many as Monaghan. Also some of our wides were not shots but mis-placed passes to the full-forwards which went over their heads and wide. Monaghan were the better side and should have won easier imo.

Tipp team named and I've a bit more confidence now but without Quinlivan Cavan should win at home.

Yeah good looking team considering all the absences and omissions.
