Cavan V Monaghan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think this will be very competitive and not more than a few points in it either way.

Monaghan have enough about them to win this game but they cannot afford the same mistakes that were made in the first half v Fermanagh.

I am going to go for a narrow win. Monaghan +2

I'm going to call a Monaghan win by at least three or four maybe more. Cannot see Cavan troubling them.

Will be more competitive than the Fermanagh game but I'd be very surprised if Monaghan still don't win out by 3+ in the end

This will be a close game, Monaghan should prevail but I won't be in anyway surprised if Cavan emerge victorious.

Would you care to enlighten the fools with a prediction?

Is that like a Trump alternative fact? Monaghan by 3 I'd say, but it won't be as close on the pitch as the scoreline will suggest, our lads will probably give away ball after ball and lots of wides at a game like this.

I hope Cavan win it, only for the fact that if we did manage to beat Tyrone I'd rather not be meeting Monaghan again in the final, seem to be a bit of a bogey team for us,
no disrespect to Down or Armagh but I think the winners of this will make the final.

History is with the Cavan man, Only women have all Ireland medals in Monaghan. Our minors set the tone on Sunday, Seniors will follow and ulster will follow that. Monaghan are 14 players short of winning an all ireland.

On paper I would say Monaghan will win this one, but Cavan are a good side. They got results against both Kerry and Mayo at the end of the league to suggest they are formidable when there is something on the line. I also think that they are at a stage of their development that means they have to win on Sunday to push on in a meaningful way with the current batch and management. For some reason I think that they can. But this game will not be for either the faint hearted nor the purists. Cavan by a point, or a draw.

Incredibly tough game to call!

I think home advantage will be important and I reckon we'll be in the lead about Half way through the 2nd half.

It's all down to how we manage that last 15-20 mins. Without seeing our starting line-up I think we'll have Mackey and possibly Johnson to spring from the bench. They were excellent when introduced against Kerry and I think a bit of shrewdness on the line would be enough to see us win this one.

In that case Cavan are 15 short of winning an All Ireland :D

Cavan are overdue a win in this fixture, and I've heard a lot of Monaghan lads saying the same. Very little between the teams- Monaghan will beat more teams than Cavan but that doesn't matter one bit because no matter what the rankings are Cavan always could tame Monaghan.

They share a curious habit of throwing up good performances when least expected and a stinker when least expected too. That may well be the case the next day out, with all the pressure on Monaghan it makes it more likely. For all the quality that O'Rourke has in the panel, they still haven't got a settled look in the forwards or midfield. Discipline is an issue for them too. On the other hand, Cavan can spring a surprise if McVeety and Clarke start, and McKiernan is used well. Leave this one out of you accumulators.

The last two Championship "O'Classicos" were nerve shredding one point Farney wins.

At four points down in Breffni two years ago,I would have bit your arm off if you'd have offered a draw.

Cavan will probably fly out of the traps, and could be well be winning at the interval.
But if this Monaghan team is to achieve it's potential, then a strong bench and a disciplined second half ought to be the basis for nicking this one by another narrow margin.

Get the ice baths ready, they'll be needed.

Depends on how far you want to go with History....65 years by the looks of it. If you do manage to beat Monaghan then history suggests than Down would beat you lot. More recent winners of Sam, in fact all FIVE wins since Cavan last won it.

39 ulster titles....1 in the last 48 years. In that same time Down have won five, Armagh have won TEN and Sam once.

IF Cavan get over Monaghan they will need more than History on their side to win Ulster.

(PS - In that same period Monaghan have won 5 Anglo Celts to Cavan's one - Imagine that. Success in colour TV)

I will stick with my original prediction Monaghan +2....

I know minority cavan supporters are posting venomous posts on these forums, however, if this seeps into the squad of cavan they may under estimate Monaghan. I doubt this is the case but find it amusing all the same. Cavan for Sam and the future is blue brigade could be the ruin of Cavan for another year.

Really looking forward to this game - monaghan will be focused, players are sharp and forwards all scoring well for their clubs so confidence will be high. But this is one of the biggest and most fiercest rivalry in the country so if any team is not up to the occasion then they will suffer. Who dares wins. Monaghan by 4 - we have more fire power and attacking plan than in previous years with the same stubborn defence and players who will go through you for a shortcut.
