Maybe next year...but this year is possible for them, time will only tell. Both great teams.

Could very easily win the hurling. They need to be consistent though...they are a very erratic hurling team.

The hurlers have been consistently challenging for the All-Ireland since 2010 and are rightfully one of the favourites.

The footballers have made rapid progress under Walsh and will be genuine contenders from next year onwards. I think 2017 is still a year too soon for them. Having Meehan and many others back is huge though and they have one of the strongest squads out there at the minute.

Maybe in under21. We did it in 05 and 11 so why not this year to keep the sequence. As for senior, a provincial double is on, though far from certain. I don't think we're ready at all Ireland level, or ever will be, as allot of cards need to fall into place, though I'd love to be wrong.

I'm curious as to how we now label a team great , as last time I checked at least one all Ireland was part of the criteria, up until Sunday Tipp were labelled great , now its Galway's turn , massive difference between being great and putting in great performances

Galway have regularly had Liam McCarthy half way across the Shannon in April. I will believe it when I see it. 30 years next year, it is too long and I would love to see them do it, but I still think Tipp are the team to beat.

I dunno, I think that's a myth. Since Cody took over KK in '99, only an ass would think that their county was half way to doing anything by April of the year, and Cody's tenure spans two thirds of Galway's famine. Even Wexford stepped in for the big pot just before Cody took over, which was opportune timing I would say.

I was hoping this thread would die an immediate death and that no Galway folk would feed into it. But since it's top of the pile at this moment, I may as well feed into it since everyone else is.

Oakleafer are you the same genius that started the thread about Kerry winning the U21 and senior All Ireland football double? (I do remember it was a Derry genius anyway). When you get past the age of puberty you will learn that one swallow doesn't make a summer and talking in April about any county winning an All Ireland, let alone two, is nothing more than childish nonsense.

Very well put and 100% accurate. Tipp will be a different animal come high Summer. Them and Cork was always going to be somewhat interesting as an early Summer battle. The league final will reinforce certain things for Tipp. The team to beat imo.

From watching the highlights last night there were some great plays from the players in the second half , they need to stick to the form they are on.

Much as I admire Galway teams I would give them no chance whatsoever of winning Sam.
They are in with a shout of McCarthy alright but only if they forget about yesterday.

For the love of God, would someone stop this nonsense. There isn't a sinner in Galway thinking we're up for the double any time soon. Hurlers will always be there or there about, and despite gaining promotion there are still a lot of unanswered questions about the footballers who haven't beaten a Div 1 team other than Mayo in donkeys years.

Question for Galway fans. Would you swap that league title on Sunday for a place in division 1A next year?

I know people say the last 3 league champs have came from 1B, but the vast majority of AI champs still come from 1A. Did Clare win it from 1B?

This tread did not come from west of the Shannon, Tipp have just as much a chance of the double, let's see how the Summer heats up.

Personally I wouldn't. Div 1B served us well this year. For at least 6 years when we were in Div 1A we went with a championship team in every Div 1 A fixture and did no experimentation, even though the team quite obviously needed adjustments. The failure to try out new players in new positions was damaging to our championship prospects later in the year. In Div 1B, although we didn't do a huge amount of experimentation, we were still able to do a bit of tinkering and find the right player for the right position (McInerney at No.6 being the most obvious example). Another year in Div 1 B will do us no harm but next year I would prioritize promotion over winning the trophy.

more chance of pigs flying than an all Ireland title in their footballers this year.

Definitely wouldn't swap a league title for 1A. Being in 1B doesn't particularly bother me much either. Most of the top teams start the League with a number of objectives I would guess. Winning is obviously one. Finding two or three players to add from the previous year. But in 1A you have to add in not getting relegated. For whatever reason that seems to be the main aim for teams in 1A. They may start out trying out a few lads in the first couple of games but two losses and suddenly the big guns are back to avoid relegation. I don't think 1B does much harm. As is said often the League is the League. No point having on one side of the coin the result on Sunday makes no odds to Tipperary as they'll be a different animal come summer (they will) but then say Galway are ill prepared to win an All Ireland as they haven't played 1A. If Galway don't win an All Ireland I don't personally think it will have anything to do with being in 1B.

Have a few colleagues at work whispering this already. Its good to see their football back on track though. Connaught football on the rise again. The game in may should be a cracker.
