Looking for some information on the Higher Education GAA Senior Football League - the League as opposed to the Sigerson Cup. Division 1 in particular. Does anyone know where i might find some information on this. What is the name of the cup awarded? Past winners etc etc. It is currently sponsored by Independent.ie Meridian (Westmeath) - Posts: 601 - 20/04/2017 09:45:07 1981033 Link 0 |

No, not the Ryan Cup. The Ryan Cup is the Division II hurling championship for third level colleges. Meridian (Westmeath) - Posts: 601 - 20/04/2017 13:58:14 1981146 Link 0 |

Found this on Wiki: The Ryan Cup is the Division II hurling championship for third level colleges, the Fitzgibbon Cup being the Division I hurling championship trophy. The Ryan Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council. At some time either in the late 1980s or in the early 1990s, the Ryan Cup - the trophy for the Division 1 gaelic football league - was presented to the winners of what was then the Division II Championship (non-university). As a result of this mix-up, the Division II Championship became colloquially known as the 'Ryan Cup'.[1] Unfortunately several other GAA trophy competitions bear this name, including still the Higher Education First-Division football league. Wiki has all the past winners for the Hurling Ryan Cup, Man of the Matches etc but nothing on the Football which is the real Ryan Cup competition.
