Dublin v Tyrone Semi-Final

Replying To cacsmckilly:  "There seems to be quite a few Dublin players getting long in the tooth, alot of the main players are 30 yrs of age apart from a few such as kilkenny, small, fenton. But most of the main men are getting on a bit. Tyrone are younger apart from Cavanagh who is a complete passenger this season. Looks like he just there for the free kicks to be honest. But all in all Tyrone are the fresher side it must be said. This might play a part in the outcome of the game if both teams are evenly matched in other departments."
I think this is wishful thinking on your part. It may hace escaped your attention but stalwarts like Bastick, Brogan, Kev Mc, McCarthy are having their positions seamlessly filled by young fellas like Fenton, Lowndes, Small, Costello, O'Callaghan. Their pace is electric. This Dublin team is as fresh as ever and now with some legends ready to blend in from the bench. I would say that this panel has never been stronger or had a better blend of youth and experience.

Agreed.Dublin seemed to be running out of steam last year.In particular,Mayo had a great chance to beat them in the drawn All-Ireland Final.Jim Gavin saw that and he has freshened things up this year.Only 8 of the players who started the drawn All-Ireland Final last year for Dublin started for them in this year's Leinster Final against Kildare. If Dublin lose this year, it won't be because the players are too old or aren't fresh enough. And Gavin has introduced new players seamlessly. He can become one of the all time great gaa Managers.

I find it hard to believe we haven't played in the championship since 2011, in the noughties Tyrone gave us a couple of thumpings with the odd close game, and then we gave you to convincing beatings in '10 and '11.
The atmosphere at this game will be electric as the Tyrone fans can be as loud as our own, and there'll be no giving up if Dublin are coasting, but I expect it to be point for point until something gives...

That was the league.

Dublin took it easy in the league this year compared to other years.

Dublin have beaten everybody of note over the last few years Tyrone have beaten nobody of note.Beating Donegal doesn't really count as they are miles behind where they used to be.

Based on your reactions to my post you seem to think the idea of Dublin being a step ahead of Tyrone is absurd when it clearly isn't and Tyrone have yet to prove they are at Dubins level, until they do I have Dublin a bit ahead of them.

It'd be nice for all ye Tyrone lads to give up the anti Ulster blarney, and get over it. But as long as Ulster men keep saying we all hate ye then there's a certain degree of prophetic fallacy to it. Nobody would be up for Dublin except for all this ulsterness- and of course Cavan which happens to be in Ulster.

My reaction is based on your very simplistic reading of this game. Tyrone have played no one yet - well neither have Dubs so both haven't been tested. Dubs are going for X number of All irelands in 5 years so they have beaten lots of great teams - that's history the older boys are getting older but more significantly they have blooded a lot of new young players as have Tyrone in fact I would suggest this is the best Tyrone squad since the noughties. Dubs didn't take league seriously - neither did Tyrone. Both teams are very similar - strong defences with awesome counter attacks. Very strong fit atheletes who can play ball. Strong benches on both sides and both with tactically astute managers. I have already stated on another post I think Dubs just might nick this one but it's no formality at all and wouldn't be one bit surprised if Tyrone win this and neither should anyone be surprised!

This will be a dour match yet exciting if Tyrone can stay with dublin down the stretch. Tyrone will need goals for sure if they are to win. If they fall 4 or 5 behind then dublin will win no problem. If they can get a foothold then they have every chance. Tyrone by 2.

If Dublin can start well which Tyrone will do there best for that not to happen and to drag Dublin down to there level but if we start well we will win because northern teams only have 1 brand of football and this Tyrone team haven't the forwards to go on the attack for large part's. If they do beat us on I'd like to see them win the final

Ulster/Northern teams have 1 brand of football - in my opinion Dubs and Tyrone have a very similar brand of football - what makes their styles so different and why would you say that Tyrone have a similar style to a Antrim, Cavan, Fermanagh, Derry etc etc. The fact you say red hands will drag Dublin down to their level suggests that Dubs are on a very different level - interesting comment but I would suggest many of your fellow suppprters wouldn't be as arrogant!

I think it is reasonable to consider that Dublin have a more tried and tested squad than Tyrone. Fair enough the dubs have introduced some new players, however twelve of their starting q/f team have all played in and won all Ireland finals, while I may be corrected but I believe that only two of the Tyrone starting 15 i.e the Cavanaghs have played on All Ireland Sunday. Similarly nearly all of the Dublin subs used have all-Ireland final experience with I think only Justin Mc Mahon on the bench for tyrone, dates back to 2008. This doesn't mean Dublin will win but certainly have an edge in experience of the big day.

League form totally irrelevant. If both teams play up to their potential, and of the ref doesn't throw it for Dublin ( a big assumption given the perennial HQ desire to see a Dublin-Kerry final), then Dublin should win by 4 or 5 points.

I really cant understand the reasoning behind thinking this will be a dour game and somehow Tyrone will want to bring Dublin down to some super defensive level that Tyrone play at.

Both teams pretty much play exactly the same brand of football. The main difference has been that Dublin have produced a batch of extraordinary talented players over the past number of years, which means that you can implement your game plan to perfection and rack up massive score lines.

Dublin folk really need to dispel the myth in their own heads that somehow you play the traditional 15v15 brand of football, you don't. You play a counter attacking brand of football with all that entails, including blanket defenses and sweepers.

Tyrone have been playing this system for about 12-14 years now. When we had our golden generation during the noughties we were able to blend defense and attack perfectly and therefore produced quality football.

For a number of years since we have been playing horrible football as we did not have the quality available.

But to say that this current Tyrone team which has been developed over the past few years is still dour is ridiculous to say the least. We now have a team which is coming very close to replicating the team of the noughties and I think our Championship performances this year has shown that.

Now this still may not be enough to beat Dublin but I guarantee that Tyrone will rack up another big score like we have been doing all year.

But sure you will still get the same lazy analysis on here by the same people who are incapable of any proper independent thought.

there was about the same amount of AI final experience amongst the Tyrone ranks in 2003 when they blitzed a Kerry side packed with AI final caps.

Its hardly a conclusive stat.

Tyrone and Dublin are completely different, Tyrone play defensive counter attacking football while Dublin play to suit the opposition and can easily go man for man where Tyrone only play defensive and will nearly always concede the kick out, I'd most definitely say Dublin are at a different level to anything in ulster at the moment and that's not arrogance it's just how it is now.

There won't be many on sale to public as County GAA members and county boards and players will need sorted first and that usually takes a few weeks.

Its obviously gonna be tough getting tickets they could probably sell 200,000 for this"

Great news for the Dubs, a neighbour refereeing the game......I wonder who Croke Park want in the Final. Sure the Final will be a sell out anyway?

I see David Goldrick is down to be the referee for this one. I imagine there are a lot of referees delighted they didn't get that phone call. Best of luck to him, judging by some of the comments on here he will be needing a lot of it.
