A cavan man praising Meath man .what the hell is wrong with you . If it gets back to Cavan you said something good about Meath you will never be allowed to set foot in Cavan again. I have seen it all. Next thing you will be saying you read Colm O Rourke every Sunday in the Sunday Independent. I heard if you do that your cavan passport is taken off you and you can never go to Cavan match ever again. Praising Meath men. I have seen it all now. What is the world coming to.

Lyons , I haven't seen such an encyclopaedic knowledge of Meath football since the epic Seamus of the Puffed Chest chronicles once upon a time on the Meath forum.

Remeber when Paudi and the Westmeath boys beat Dublin in the noughties. I was at the match. A brillant moment , in leinster football we need more that.

It was 8 Eire Og players that day, not all Eire Og players wanted to play for the county at the time which held us back a lot. Should have been 12 on the team, but that was never going to happen. We came into that Meath game flying after hammering Wexford by 15 points & scoring 4 goals v a decent Wicklow side too. Horrible dose of reality was losing by 18 pts that day....but what a Meath team that was, the start of something unexpected and amazing that year. Ah Royaldunne lets go back to the magical year of 1957 Louth's heaven. Louth beat Carlow in the first round. It was the Wee battle of the smallest two counties in Ireland. In the quarter-finals the Wee Men beat Wexford who had reached the Leinster Final the previous year. In the semi-final they knocked out the Leinster Champions Kildare and in the Leinster Final they beat the Dubs. The following year the Dubs would win the All Ireland. In the All Ireland Sem-final they beat Tyrone who had won back to back Ulsters. It was Louth's first championship meeting with the Ulster side. The 22nd September 1957 will go down in Wee County Folklore. The smallest County in Ireland would be playing the biggest County. This was the first time that both sides had faced each other in the Championship. With Louth and Cork both red and white both sides changed stripes. Louth wore the green of Leinster and Cork wore the blue of Munster. Cork were hot favs. They were beaten in the All Ireland in 1956 by Galway. Louth won the match 1-09 to 1-07. Dermot O Brien became the first Louth Captain to lift Sam and it was Louth's first All Ireland since 1912. The same day the Meath minors won the All Ireland by trashing Armagh. Great days indeed for Louth.

Indeed , a great day and the Dubs were shocked. Even Alan Brogan said afterwards how disgusted he was when your namesake Tommy Lyons was spat at by his own Dublin supporters as he came off the pitch that day.

Well on the 60th Anniversary of Louth's last Leinster Championship I believe Louth will beat Wicklow, Meath, Kildare and the Dubs and will create history as the first county to win a Leinster Championship while knocking out the top three guns in the Province in the same year. Louth are 300/1 to win the Leinster this year. Stick a fiver on it. An Lu Abu!

The team of 57 is still seen as gods in Louth and deservedly so. I have met Louth men talkin about 57 and tears would well up in their eyes . And hopefully Louth someday have another day like that special day in 57 . Every county deserves their day in the sun. What a great era that was in leinster football. A golden era in leinster football you had all ireland winnng Dublin Meath and Louth teams. And also strong Kildare Laois Wexford Carlow teams. Of course with Meath Louth Cavan you had three All Ireland winning teams on each others border . I'd say the rivalry at the time was unreal. I talked to my great grandfather many times about the clashes between Meath V Louth during that time. Late 40s the three game saga between Louth and Meath is right up there with 1991. Meath and Louth is the oldest gaa rivalry . The first recorded gaelic football match was between a team from Meath and a team from Louth in Tara. GAA oldest rivalry . But as long Dublin are beaten . They don't get their grubby money hands on the Delaney cup I am happy. Lyons2000 (Meath) - Posts: 101 - 18/04/2017 21:37:37 1980600 Link 0 |

Yeah lot of Carlow support at that game, it has become a iconic game for the fact Carlow were seen by many as not only having a real chance of beating but that it would end boylans tenure and then to go on and win it out.

Some great games. Things like this is what makes Leinster so special, even the Westmeath win, the Laois win, the Kildare wins, Offaly in 90s from division 4 winning it, its a very important competition for all counties, yes the back door has diluted it somewhat and dubs with all their advantage has taken a shine off it bit that only makes this fantastic competition more important to win. I want Meath to win it more than anything, however once dubs dont win I will ne happy as IT will serve the competition better. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 18/04/2017 22:04:54 1980611 Link 0 |
A summary of what I'm saying is 1 Meath get into Division 1 2 Meath stay in Division 1 3 Meath beat Dublin That's all I might saying. I'm not saying that staying in division 1 will be easy . It's not impossible. It would not take football miracle for McEntee to get Meath promoted and stay in Division with a young team. Meath are not as bad as many people think. We are not as good as we like. But we are not a division 4 team, we are not Division 3 team. We are top Division 2 team that has finished 3rd 3 times in four years. The Averge age of the team is 23. One of the youngest in the country. This a new Meath team . No one can say they are not good. Because their only beginning as a team. No one knows how good they are because they at least 3 years of their peak. We do have some good footballers. We do have young footballers with bundles of potential. And we have a truly great tradition as one of the great GAA counties. Along with Down, Meath have overachieved in Gaelic football terms more then any other county. And watching Dublin win Sam. When a Meath man sees Dublin winning an Ireland a little bit of him dies inside. And it's the same for Dublin when Meath win. And we have potentially have a top class manager in McEntee. We all know what a good manager can bring to a team. Meath being successful in the next few years is not a pipedream that some people think. I am 100% certain Meath will be stronger in the next few years, stronger then any other time since Boylan left us. Never right of the Royals. The younger Dublin supporters who have started following the Dubs in the last few years Will have that saying ringing in their ears in the not to distant future. The saying is you never right off the royals. The hay saved the Dubs beaten the summer starts here. A battle cry from. DUNLEEK TO DUNBOYNE FROM NAVAN TO NOBBER FROM DUNDERRY TO SUMMERHILL MEATH will knock Dublin off their pedestal . It's not a question if Meath will beat Dublin it's a question of when Meath will beat Dublin in the coming years. Lyons2000 (Meath) - Posts: 101 - 18/04/2017 22:06:26 1980612 Link 0 |
You seem to be posting on it a few times yourself, if you don't want to be bothered by it set up one about limericks chances in Munster in either code. One word would suffice. None

Now you disappeared for a couple of years and now you reappear again trying to say anyone with a different opinion is me. I have one and only one account , sorry to disappoint you, but that is now bettystown, ziggy, htaem, bobjaffa, foreveroyal Ollie, and a couple from Dublin including one woman and now a county man of yours that you have accused of been me or i been them. I got to say it's quite funny in a pathetic way. But sure they you go. Btw I am none of them.

What's compelling me to respond here is, 1.Tullow CS, 2.Eire Og football club. 1. I was part of the Tullow community school in the 90's, we were managed by Pauric Cunnane a great Mayo man who was principal at that time, we played at county level, at provincial level, and at national level with great success, the ultimate being All Ireland success, the point I want to make is should that successful school team have represented Carlow at minor level we would have won not one but two leinster titles, I am confident of that. 2. Should the Eire Og club have represented Carlow at senior county level in '94, '95, and '96 I am confident that the margin of victory/defeat would be talked about long after the games for the right reasons. 3. How the 2017 Leinster senior football championship pan's out and it's conclusion is much easier to predict than that of 2016, I'm confident of that as well. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2907 - 18/04/2017 22:29:11 1980621 Link 0 |
