(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

in January 2006, over 25,000 paying customers watched armagh v tyrone - in casement park in a mckenna cup semi-final, a better venue is required, lets face it the current is half closed because of health and safety

i must say one thing lads, ye do have some lovely footy grounds up north, kerry are the most successful intercounty gaelic football team in the in the world and we have the worst stadium.

I've thought for a long time we should have a post if the month. This is my vote for February. How can you ever top

Seen on facebook this is an all-seater stadium.

Big error from the Ulster Council. Catastrophic in face.

Fair comment that - It reminds me a wee bit of that legend Effin Eddie Maroney from Aherlow...."In GAA circumstances........"

You may all think i am bias but would this not be an ideal stadium located in the middle of the country. Westmeath is located right in the center of the country and a stadium like this would be perfect. We see so many leinster championship games played in croker in front of very small crowds. Even the leinster hurling final usually fails to draw a crowd. If this was in the middle of the country it would be able to acomadate big qualifier games also. it would also generate a great atmosphere which is whats missing at gaa games and players could play in front of a full house. Best of luck to antrim but my god such a place to have it.

Looks good in fairness.

I've only been to a few games in Clones down through the years but anything will be an improvement on it!

westmeath might be centre of ireland but in terms of leinster its hardly good spot, croker is perfect in terms of distance for most countys and the infrastructure to it is what counts most dont think athlone would suit some countys in terms of the map of leinster.qulaifier games yes would be good spot but for me if you looking for a ground outside of croker to do up portlaoise would be the one,it has brilliant infrastructure with the m7 right beside it and the train station minutes walk along with good bus services,it would also be good for all ireland quarter finals involving munster teams like kerry and cork not having to travel all the way to croker for them games

I agree with you. What i should of said was a county in the midland area. Portlaoise would be ideal for the venue and i think it would encourage crowds to attend more games. But im still baffled as to why antrim has been given the go ahead. its location is a disaster. The most it will get is a few ulster champ games.

My only concern about the new stadium is it looks as if one end will be left open to the elements and that is wrong. The Atlantic weather fronts come in over the Belfast hills towards the city and Casement can often be very exposed to the wind and rain. I believe fans, players and the pitch need to be shielded from this as you can get soaked and frozen in the current open ground. The 4 sides should have cover in the new stadium. Furthermore I have to laugh at some of the anti-Casement posters particularly the Tyrone and Armagh ones. They have no problem coming into Belfast for their public sector jobs EVERY day and they never opened their mouths when the Ulster Council took Ulster finals involving their teams to Croke Park for several years.

Reel your neck in Ulsterman, Belfast will have its white elephant with or without our say so! And your comment about us lot going to Belfast for our civil service jobs, well of course we do, lets face it, who else is going to serve up your benefits and keep you in Tennants super!

In a way I agree with Ulsterman the open end reminds me of the problem that Croke Park has in that the wind swirls around at the Nally End which makes point taking more difficult. Also it could be a warmer by doing so. It would be better closed in however this would destroy the view from the new Apartments on Andytown Road and these are the people that will have to live with it 24/7 whereas the rest of us will only be visitors so probably a good compromise.

Whats the thoughts on this being an all-seater?

The language used all along has been all-seater and a few like Hill I think suggested you want to have some terracing.
At this stage this is a consultancy phase nothing sealed and the residents are very involved in the process. Models and drawings are on display at various venues up the West.
