Derry vs Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

If there is going to be a backlash from Derry after being relegated than this is the game to do it. Unfortunately I have no idea were a Derry performance that can beat Tyrone is going to come from. Some of their players will need to have the game of there lives such as Chris Bradley, Lynch and Kielt while hoping Rogers and McKaigue play like they did in the club semi final this year!! Derry need to be tight at the back, the 6 backs need to hold their shape especially in the first half if they want to be in with a chance of winning.

Tyrone on the other hand need to forget about last years game as this one will be completely different. Derry are not going to let them run riot again and I fell that this is a game that will go for 55-60 mins before Tyrones bench and experience sees them pull away. One thing to note is Derry on paper probably have the better array of scoring forwards and the lack of a consistent scoring forward for Tyrone will make this into a real battle for the 55-60mins.

I see a similar game to the two Ulster games of last week, only maybe a bit of a smaller winning margin. Competitive enough for the first half before Tyrone pull away in the second half and win by 6 or 7.

Ahhh Championship morning. You can't beat them!!!! The closer to throw in the more nervous I get. Was confident mid week but after seeing the Derry team I'm less so. Also I think mark lynch will start.
Kinda feels set up for shock.
Just hope Tyrone play to their best.
Anyway all the best to everyone going and safe travels.

All us Tyrone guys are nervous because of three extremely large elephants in the room!

1. Micky Harte and his horrible negative style of football - caused by I imagine...

2. Tyrone have no consistent scoring forwards that will bag you 4-5 points a game at the business end of The Championship

3. Tyrone haven't got a reliable free taker!

Derry outclassed so far but Maurice deegan keeping tyrone ticking along here. Benny herron 6 steps free out. Mattie donnelly 9 steps free in.
A prime example of refereeing to the predetermined narrative.

Marty is a poor commentator, a perfect example is Derry forward taking a free from 21 metre over near sideline and he misses - "These are simple tap overs that should be put away". A minute later Tyrone taking exactly same one, same distance, same angle "This is a very acute angle a most difficult kick struck beautifully but wide" - no wonder I have to turn the sound down.

Tyrone corner forward gets a free every time he falls over.

Bradley dives every time he's tackled but ref keeps falling for it, Sean Cavanagh tries to run through 2 Derry players they hold him up that's always given as overcarrying nowadays but Deegan gives a free in.

Deegan is shocking .
As for the game itself, dire awful affair.

A couple of years ago we decided to play an attacking brand of football and I started to get excited about watching county football again.

We seemed to have went backwards.

Total muck

Yep it was really bad. It was at a crucial time also, could have made a game of it.

Poor Derry performance today. Very unlike them. Tyrone just outclassed them. Best i have seen Tyrone play in my entire lifetime. I can see Derry coming through the back door and maybe making an All Ireland semi final though

Was at Tyrone's last League game against Kerry in Killarney, after their 'performance' that day I was saying I would be amazed if Tyrone managed to make any dent in this year's Championship.

Nothing I saw today would change that opinion for me anyway.

I think Donegal will be licking their lips at this fixture.

Tyrone did what they needed to do and will improve. Derry were very poor, no attacking plan and their tackling was woeful. They gave away numerous scorable frees from poor tackling when the forward was going nowhere.

Tyrone still seem to have issues with frees
