Mayo v Dublin

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Castlebar here we come, really looking forward to this game we have built up a great rivalry with Mayo the last ten years and looking forward to a great game Saturday evening hopefully in good conditions.Connolly back for Dublin is a big plus for us so hopefully he gets game time, Mayo in Castlebar is never easy especially now with them having such a good team.

Have to say I fancy Mayo here despite Dublin's need for points, should be a better game than the apocalyptic mess that prevailed in Croker last Saturday at least.....

A stinker of a place to get a result. I think that Dublin could make or break their season here. It will be a tough game, no doubt about it. A lot will depend on whether Mayo will go at it like they really need and want to win, or if they are happy to hold off and save their players for their last 2 games. Somewhere between the 2 is most likely. I think that Dublin will find form, but not sure if it is going to be this sunday coming. Intriguing.

Think Mayo will be up for this one especially on home turf and will make it difficult. Think they will probably shade it and Dublin win would be a bonus after last week when we didn't play well. Here's hoping we get back to winning ways sooner than later. Has to be a better spectacle than what was on offer last Saturday night but that wouldn't be hard.

For me..

Mayo firm favorites - in much better pre-season form compared to Dublin

They are very good side, at home on a pitch that Dublin have failed so often on... against a 5/10 Dublin team at present

Dublin winning this would def come as a surprise to me and would in fact be a great result!

I'd happily take another point now... and then go hell for leather into the last 2 games where I think we stand a better chance of picking up maximum points

But on form alone... it would be a shock if Mayo lost.

Hard one to call at the moment. Mayo were lucky to beat Derry and Dublin are due a performance.
Will be interesting to see what team Dublin go with. If they have Flynn, Rock, Connolly, Brogan and Kev Mc in the forward line they'll have to be favorites.

I think Dublin will win this one quite comfortably.

realdub, why?
Mayo are safe. Dublin need the points. Id imagine mayo would have trained a bit harder this week with an eye on the summer and will probably try a few things on the day. Dublin need 2 points here or they are under pressure. Id be happy if we got a draw.

Why Master?, because you are a better team at the moment and playing better football, that's why!

Dublin have 0% of winning this game

Genuinely believe that.

We will NOT win in Castlebar.

I'd be surprised if the Dubs got outta Castlebar with a win to be honest.

I think we'll be hoping for back to back wins against Monaghan and Derry (no guarantees either!) to see us safe.

Jaysus, the amount of shadow-boxing on this thread is unreal! IMO Cillian O'Connor is a big loss, which makes Dublin slight favourites (especially with Diarmaid Connolly back in contention, apparently) but I wouldn't see there being much more than a score or two in it. Not that there's much at stake until the summer anyway...

Incidentally, for all you blues travelling down, the local Castlebar Mitchels club are laying on a big welcome for you:

I think it'll be close but Dublin don't look like they are capable of beating a top team at the moment, hope I'm wrong though, don't really care for the league too much but being demoted is not a good way to go!

Very interesting game. If I was Mayo manager(s) I would want to win it and get 100% safe and qualified for the play off's....that then gives you play for the final two games to try out other players. Cillian is out injured of course and we do still have other players out plus the u-21 lads assuming we win tonight.

Dubs need the points alright.....have not seen much of them bar the last 15mins on TV against Tyrone. Connolly is back and Rock in great form.
Il go for the draw :)

Paul Flynn back yet lads?

Paul Flynn made his first appearance in the 2nd half last Saturday night and like anyone else will need more game time! O'Connor is certainly a loss but we look so terribly dis-jointed.

Really looking forward to it but going down more in hope than expectation. We've been disappointing so far. Midfield continues to be a real problem for us, we look off the pace at the back and the forwards were rudderless in the last two games when both were there to be won. If Flynn starts it will be great news for Dublin. I would give Costello, Kev Mc and Bernard a start also. We were tactically clueless last Sat but I expect Mayo to play a more open game and maybe we can open them up for a few scores. O'Connor not playing for Mayo is a bonus but I fancy Mayo to carry their form into this one and pip us by a couple of scores in the end.

Dublin to win. Mayo got another financial deal for mac hale park to let the dubs win. Can you imagine dubs not been in league semi finals, think of all the lost revenue gaa corporate machine.
