How do you go about it? What are the costs? dizzydub (Dublin) - Posts: 339 - 30/08/2013 09:38:39 1471232 Link 0 |
If you are serious, and not just curious, then contact the lads from Réalt Dearg.....I doubt you will get better info anywhere else! Snufalufagus (Dublin) - Posts: 8100 - 30/08/2013 10:17:33 1471256 Link 0 |
Why do you want to? Surely there must be a club near you? There have been several attempts in recent years to set up new clubs but Reált Dearg - basically one hurling team - and Gaeil Óg - likewise for Irish speakers - are only ones to get off the ground as far as I know. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 30/08/2013 11:07:06 1471276 Link 0 |
I would contact the Dublin GAA development officers. I know when Adamstown was setup they worked closely with them to get everything up and running. doublehop (Kildare) - Posts: 4172 - 30/08/2013 12:20:05 1471335 Link 0 |
Its relatively easy if you are from an area without a club already. A club can be formed with as little as 15 playing members. Important to note that you have to field a team in either code so need to have 15 players on pitch at least once in championship game. If a club exists already may not get sanction from GAA. Costs are quite high at start of year but not too bad later in season esp in footbal. Insurance around €1000 per adult team. Admin about the same. Depending on county board there may be a levy on every club ie tickets to sell for county board etc. Equipment not too bad as players should have their own gear and footballs/sliotars/cones are club costs. Dont forget you have to have a home ground so need to rent a field or get access to council grounds or agree ground share with another club. Your biggest problem will be other clubs who will see you as going in on their territory. You cant just have any players you want, Transfers will have to be sought and granted as per county Bye Laws and even if a fella only played one game at Under 12 level for another club he needs a transfer as that is his Home Club. jpcampion (Laois) - Posts: 194 - 30/08/2013 12:40:41 1471360 Link 0 |
Well you'd need good financial backing to start with, you could probably share a ground for a while, maybe start up a club lotto as well. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 30/08/2013 14:20:47 1471446 Link 0 |

Setanta is a new hurling club set up in carlow town in the last 2 years. Its started at juvenile, u6s and are fielding upto u12 in hurling and u14 in camogie. They have no grounds of their own but rely on a local school to provide them a pitch. Its a huge success with big numbers involved and continuing to grow. Prominent members are former intercounty ref pat aherne and ex carlow senior manager eoin garvey. Its one of the biggest pluses we had in the county in years. Look them up on facebook. They d be only glad to help. old yellar (None) - Posts: 2631 - 30/08/2013 17:44:01 1471615 Link 0 |
