Cynical fouling

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This issue has obviously been raised numerous times here but last weekend i think i saw the most shocking display of it ive ever seen, not the actual foul but the referees action. Jamie clarke scored a fantastic a badly needed goal the last day against cavan, but seconds before hand a cavan defender pulled his jersey, the referee blew the whistle almost simultaneously to when he scored the goal, the goal wasnt counted and armagh got a free, I know people are going to be saying that once the whistle is blown theres nothing that can be done, but this was a complete rewarding of cynical play. Any young people who saw this that play football will be more encouraged than ever to tackle cynically in front of goal despite all the talk about the black card.

Mayo, cynical? Say it ain't so.

Any county worth their sort are cynical in some sort. Any county, indeed any successful team in any sport, are cynical. Mayo may just be adding the final ingredient to their undoubted talent to finally win Sam.

How bad was the diving /play acting and cynicism today?? Grown man diving to the ground trying to get there opponent sent off it really makes me sick. And managers running onto the pitch as if there player was shot. Disgrace something needs to be done.

Donegal are nasters at this as they seem to know howto just do enough without getting punisged.

I honestly dont know the rules anymore.Clear Tyrone penalty, numeerous instances by donegal of throwing opponent to the ground and play went on.

Donegal deserved their victory but i hold my hands up i really dont like them or the style of team and supporters.

Why was Murphy still lying on the ground two minutes after McMahon barely touched him with a trip??? It's horrible and there all in on it.

Clondalkin.

It got McMahon sent off. That's why he stayed down.

If he'd just gotten straight up and gotten on with the game then McMahon wouldn't have been booked.

It's all part of the game now unfortunately.

Its all part of Jimbo's drive to eternal sainthood, anything will do, on or off the field and I mean anything will do for Jimbo to succeed.
Its going to be fun watching this wagon lose its wheels and it won't be pretty.

the whole game today was summed up by the word cynical and that is both teams tyrone were probably worse at it .

Whether Murphy stayed down or not McMahon was deservedly sent off so I don't see why bringing that up helps anything. I agree with what was said above about a bit of cynicality being in every single sport, it will always be there in parts but it is a problem when it starts happening regularly (which it is in the GAA right now), hopefully the black card will minimise the cynical fouling.

You should take your blinkers of hatred off. You keep asking what does your idol have to do to win an all star at full back, The answer is restrict players like spephen o neill to one long-range scoring chance.

"Style of supporters" 51longago, wtf? The Donegal support are amongst the most honest and knowledgeable I have ever mixed with, you need to get over 2012 mate and start looking forward.

Its very telling that so many dublin followers are jumping on this thread. There were players that went down easily to day.
I would accept this, but I would also say that it is part of all sports now, and I am justifying it by saying this. If a player goes down who has been fouled if it will gain some advantage, then it would b madness not to. If a player goes down without contact then fair enough there should b a booking against him. It is up to the refs and the umpires and linesmen to do their best to police this.

Tyrone was a tough test today. I am glad that we got over it and to do it with being 'tarnished' with diving is better than playing a mugs game and losing.
