Two hundred ideas to improve the GAA

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to generate solutions. There are proven techniques for solution generation but doing it over the internet is both difficult and advantageous. I suggest that once we have 200 ideas generated (hopefully more), the list would be sent to the GAA hq in croke park.

This thread is about generating lots of ideas, not judging them. The acronym GREAT is used in solution generation - Generate, Reduce, Evaluate and Tie together. What this thread is about is the "G" - generating ideas only.

Ground rules are:

•all ideas which improve the GAA are welcome.
•Personalised ideas (i.e. "sack so and so", "dont pick so and so") are not allowed.
•No idea is evaluated on the thread (except those clearly wumming) Maybe a moderator can volunteer to sticky this thread, keep it at all times at the top of the forum and delete the WUMming and keep the thread on topic.
•Ideas and praise only
•If you don't like the thread, don't read it and don't post on it.

Some points to note about creative thought:
• Think outside the box
• Don't be afraid of being wrong
• Don't try to be logical
• Challenge existing assumptions
• Challenge existing paradigms
• Don't try to search for the "right" answer
• Don't judge ideas before they are formed
• Don't be a victim of psychological inertia

Good Luck

Il start.
1. change structure of all ireland senior championships to champions league formats
2. reduce further the u12 go games championship. dont have specific groups. have 1 night a week in each county/division which is u12 night and several clubs go to 1 club and play 4 or 5 games against other clubs. the following week each club goes elsewhere and plays a completly different group of clubs. have no finals day at all
3. market schools cup comps like the harty cup better, they are an incredibly high standard yet GAA media puts nowhere near enough coverage on them

remember dont comment on any points. post up your own ideas. ive 3 points, ideally put your points down in number format following on from my 3 points. Ideally when we have 200 ideas we could send them in with our real names to the GAA and see what they think of our proposals

Id condense the championship to run over 2 months.
8 weeks of dedicated weekends to inter county.
No replays.

My idea being it would free up club time in the "good" summer months

5. Yellow card for any keeper attempting to influence/distract an umpire by flagging shots as wide.

A small change I really can't see any drawback to.

Keep the ideas numbered. Itll be too difficult to know what stage and number we are at.

6. Scrap extra time and go straight to penalties, would be far more exciting.

7. Create a season long all ireland club league.

8. Minimise the number of Consecutive handpasses in a row

9. Goalies can't go outside the 14 yard box

Footblocks by keepers should only be penalised when its dangerous play not when the keeper blocks a shot with his feet and no players near him.

12. Penalise professional interchange fouling. This is the practice where one player fouls usually outside scoring range, they take turns, no-one gets red-carded and teams are prevented from running at or getting momentum.

13. End the farce wherby three, four and five players can surround a player with the ball and they automaticallly get a free.

Ormond, good idea, only thing is numbers wont work as its not realtime!

-Enforce the rule that keepers are not allowed to leave their line before a penalty is struck
-Encourage past players to become referees
-Allow fans on the pitch after games
-Allow season ticket holders to decide if they want to go to a cheaper area of the stand
-Do something lobbying with regards the fact that you cant get TV3 on digital up north (therefore we dont get to see alot of televised games)

That is all... for now

Ah **** I'm no.13!

13. Black card/name recorded for checking a player running without the ball, i.e. using anything other than the shoulder to take the momentum out of a runner.
14. 2 points for long range points taken (e.g.40 metres at senior, 30 metres at underage)

13. Play club championships (Senior/Inter/Junior) during the summer and not in the muck of autumn/winter.

And another thing...

20. No drawn games, i.e. advantage given to most attacking team, e.g. the team with largest no. of points from play, then largest no. of individual scorers, then largest number of wides, then least no. of red/yellow cards, etc.
