Underdog Reduction

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I ask the question should underdog supporters get cheaper admission rates to Championship games?
I think so. If you look at some of the fixtures that are due to take place how could anyone from for example Cavan go to a Cavan and Donegal game with any confidence of a win?
Only the very loyal supporters will go and people that have relations on the team. Surely the GAA would be better off filling Breffni/Kingspan park by giving Cavan supporters cheaper admission to a game where the result is 99% assured and the only question is how much we will get beat by. This I feel would do the GAA in Cavan a world of good and bring out the fair weather supporters to see Cavan. These supporters are generally happy to listen to it on the wireless. The same goes for Leirtim, Killkenny, Waterford, supporters.

What are opinions on this?

That is completly idiotic to be honest. Makes no sense at all no matter how you look at it. How would you differentiate which county people are from
How exactly is it feasible?

Terrible idea!! How would that be fair? Whats to stop the Donegal supporters putting on Cavan colours and getting in cheaper?

That's hilarious. How can you tell a person from a donegal person except that it would be typical cavan to be looking for money off the ticket price....

No offence but should this not belong on the "Friday afternoon joke thread" heard of Cavan being tight but jez.... it's like the recent Cavan County Final that was delayed by 25 minutes... everytime the ref flipped the coin the 30 Cavan club players would dive for it.

MR Bannerman,
I do have symapthy for your uneducated views which you have expressed before thinking on the positive results which I will outlne.

No 1 All parks full for Championship games Breffni/ Nolan Park, Pearse Park ect
No 2 Sunshine supporters will come out to games.
No 3 Better atmosphere for players.
No 4 Our youth will look towards GAA.

How do you mnanage to address cheaper admission rates.

Previous years performance in league/championship to be taken into consideration..
I can elaborate on my plan if necessary to convince the doubters.

Always remember where you saw it first ie on Hoganstand and idea promoted by TS

I feel that each County Board should be allowed to fix to the admission prices for all first round home games. You take Carlow V someone . How can the Leinster Council charge the same for that game to home fans as say Dublin V someone in Croke Park.
The same goes for Cavan on Sunday, Cavan men on the gate have to charge the same to Cavan people as if we were in the All Ireland last year.
We a County that have failed to won anything for a long number of year and has only installed a manager in the past month.
I will say that if Breffni park is 2/3 full on Sunday it will be the most.
I think that uniform admission prices set by the GAA ruling Council is a disaster

Yeah, I don't think this would do Cavan any good anyway. Ye'd all be cheering on the opposition to save yourselves a few quid the following year.

But seriously, that would be fairly unprecedented in any sport or cometition anywhere. I've never heard of it anywhere.

Tom, you are either a WUM(if you are well played as you've reeled in a few including myself) or incredibly arrogant if you think my views are "uneducated".
Reducing the admission price for one county and not another at a game is impossible to do. Say Louth have to play Dublin in the leinster football championship, dublin are overwhelming favourites and under your proposal the louth fans would get in cheaper. How can you differentiate properly between fans of each county, whats to stop fans of 1 county pretending to be from another just to get in cheaper
How does this proposal make a better atmosphere for players? Can you explain that please...
You mention in another post that "uniform admission prices are a disaster". They are not. Thats how all sports work and they work in them and they work in the GAA

Mr Bannerman Tomsmith here, I still stand by my views that underdog team supporters should gain admission at a cheaper rate than top flight team supporters. We have to look at Football as well as Hurling in this bold new adventure. Take a weak hurling County (Cavan is very weak) that is travelling to play a game that is a foregoing conclusion what incentive is in it for the fair weather or indeed farming supporter to take a day off and go to support his/her county.
It has also to be remembered that we in the GAA are competing against another big sporting event this Summer in Europe.
At least a reduction in the backdoor admission prices from last year would be a start.
