We've all had our ideas on this but how about posting them here. With the current set up with inter county level, it is becoming crazy for clubs to play matches. The inter county scene has resulted in many teams going months waiting on Championship to start.
For example, the Dublin Hurling and Football Senior Championship has been put off till both senior teams are out of the All Ireland race, is this fare? How is it that Kerry can run a round a week after the Munster Final? Whereas in Donegal, Jim McGuinness requested the Champ to be postponed (I know a player got injured).
It appears that this is how the country, in general works with club fixtures: -- Jan-Feb = Pre Season with some tournaments --Mar-May = National Leagues and Club Leagues where the county players play the 'odd' game when released --June-Sept = All Ireland takes over. Club league games played every few weeks with holidays postponed. Your county champ is played when the County team exits race for Sam/Liam --Sept-Oct = Mad scramble to finish the County champ before the Provincial champ starts --Nov-Dec = Prov Champ and start of County Training again (come on we know its happening but its not collective sessions)
Maybe I am naive but surely something needs to be done. One example of a friend of mine: -- Started Pre Season in Jan with club -- League started in Mar (11 games up to now) -- One championship match so far -- 1 league game left -- Champ is now off until Sept
I'm not saying I have the answer but the above isnt it
Just play everything with everybody and apply a little common sense. This craic about county players getting injured in club games is ridiculous. It can happen alright but they can also get injured in county training too. I saw last year that Cork Manager requested the Cork SHC be brought forward to before MSHC against Tipp so he could see who's going well or not. Also I was sitting beside a fella from Tipp 2 years ago at the Hurling Final , Eoin Kelly had just scored his umpteenth point, and my tipp friend said he fancied Kelly to have a blinder as he was outstanding the WEEK BEFORE in a North Tipp (?) Championship game . I think thats the way forward .
