Kilkenny is still away, as far as im aware everyone else is available. The obvious question is Connolly, heart says he wont play again but I predict he will for the craic.

Probably wont be quite as strong as that starting, but id imagine all 15 of those guys will be in the match day panel/"
If that or close to that is the starting team I'm changing my prediction to a 6 point Dublin win ;)

You can take Mannion, McCarthy out of that team. Plus Connolly.

Thats an all Ireland final lineup, Monaghan wont even have their best 15 back for the first round of the league......must be some training in Florida!

Maybe something more like that , that's just off the top of my head I haven't a clue what the team will be. Sad to think a 31 year old Diarmuid Connolly will never wear the Blue jersey again even if you hate him and Dublin its a lesser game without him imo.

Very difficult game ahead no doubt.

2pts here will be valuable but not essential.

This league campaign should be about giving game time to the panel while hopefully remaining competitive and collecting enough pts to be close to the top. If it's not enough then fair enough.

Dublin have a far bigger target to concentrate on and as such I'm happy to hear that Kilkenny and Fenton have decided to do a bit of travelling. Much deserved.

Also 100% rest Mannion and O'Sullivan.

Both have struggled with injuries and Mannion was playing with that injury up until the Leinster final. Both need to be rested and will be crucial assets come Championship time. I'd still expect to see them come back in and get game time but no rush.

I knew JMcC would be out but good to have that surgery so early in season, zero rush, enjoy the rest.

It's time for the panel to come to the front.

Midfield will be different and it'll be interesting to see the cover there. Howard may possibly drop in there for now, Reddin, MDMC too but it gives an opportunity for younger lads to possibly get the call up. We saw young Gavin performing well recently. IMO it may prove to be our weakest area across the games.

Up front I'd give game time to O'Callaghan (not played much league games for Dublin) Byrne, Small, Basquel, Costello, McHugh and I'd also give Andrews, Flynn, Brogan, Kev, EOG a good run out. They didn't play much last year and will be very handy across this league campaign.

In defense Evan Comerford will hopefully get deserved game time (slotted in very well when Cluxton was injured) Murchan, Lowndes, Howard (if not playing midfield) and we'll see a couple of debuts back there across this campaign imo.

Gavin and co will balance it all out. Gavin's handling of the team at this time of year has been exemplary and given the target of what's on offer in 2019.. I'd expect more of the same.

Hard one to call. probably the best time to get Dublin. if Monaghan hit them hard and build up a lead early it could be Monaghan's day.

Il go for a draw as its in Clones. I believe its on TG4 so should be a good watch."
This is not a big match, is not in Croke Park, is not championship and does not involve Tyrone.

Perhaps open alternate thread and mention Tyrone's recent big match "wilts" in Croker, Cork semi 09, Mayo semi 13, Kerry semi 15, Dublin semi 17 and Dublin final 18. Tyrone deservedly beat Monaghan in August by the way.

I'm 50% Tryone blood and I cheered for Dublin for the first All Ireland ever last year. Enought said.

If you read your post carefully it consistently says "semi" and "final". How many all Ireland semi finals and finals have Monaghan been in over the last few years? Apart from last year when you were beat by Tyrone?

Listen I'm not here to bash Monaghan. Just corrected the OP. If Monaghan had I'd beat Tyrone last year I would certainly have been cheering them on the final, not that it would have made a difference because they would have been well beat just like Tyrone were.

Anyway, back on topic, any predictions on the Monaghan starting team? Any injuries? McManus playing?

Wouldn't like to predict the starting team, fear the team announced will not resemble the starting team. He has a habit of picking a containing team for the start and keeping something back for the second half. I hope he goes for it flat out from the start and see where it takes us, would be great to see three inside forwards including K Hughes and mix it up a bit. Possession will be key to this one, battle of the goalkeepers methinks. Best rated in the country versus the second best

Dublin will win this pulling up. Monaghan missing a lot of key men for this one. Think 1-18 when everyone fit we are well up there but after that not so much so. Good talent coming through especially in forwards but will take a few years.Beggan and McManus will continue to be the key men this year.

Mon missing two key men for this one. Kearns and K Hughes who is resting that hamstring. And he played very little last summer all be it very well when he came on in the semi. Not sure if any other injuries. Theory is that McManus should be rested but he's sure to want to play against Dublin at home.

So in reality Monaghan have a pretty strong squad to select from. Including the few new lads. Plus they have had three competitive games to Dublins none. So no real excuses from Monaghan perspective.

As referenced above, Dublin missing alot of their big men but they are so strong through out the panel they should still be favourites to win this, and every game they play. But certainly better to play Dublin now than in late Feb when they are starting to eye another league title.

Howard and Con are not in the panle as they play Siegurson.

Monaghan's best chance to beat Dublin in a meaningfull match in donkey's years. I think they will too as they go hard at the start of the league to stay up.

If Dublin win this it is onimous for the rest of the year!
