Who says anything about ending the running game ? You would just need more skilled footballers to execute the shorter kicks and make it a bit more of a spectacle

After the Donegal/Fermanagh game last year there was a debate on here, mainly between Tyrone and Donegal posters, where it was agreed most top teams do it link . However now that a Kerry team has done it 9 months later there are all sorts of tantrums. It's a scourge of the modern game no matter who does it."
What do you mean 'now that a Kerry team has done it', this has been going on for some time. Let's not play favorites here, audit the last few years rather than one game.

The only good thing out of crokes winning for me was Cooper getting a well deserved club all Ireland medal. He has been sinned against as an individual on the pitch and despite what your feelings are about who he happens to play for, he should be admired for his skill and conduct.

Its really not a hard concept to understand, defensive tactics are things like blanket defense and sweepers, this is not the same as repeated off the ball fouling to spoil runners or make forwards reluctant to go for balls.

Tyrone and Donegal for example engage in defense tactics, but Tyrone are more likely to engage in cyclical play. Dubs and Kerry fans seem to have a strange obsession with defending their teams repeated fouling off the ball as "defense play" one wonders do they need a few more prescriptions at specsavers or indeed a few English lessons since they think people complaining about fouling are annoyed at defense play, my 5 year old can comprehend the language better."
What the hell are you talking lad. Tyrone more cynical that Donegal?? The Donegal bench at the u21 game in the final minute when Tyrone attacking kicked 2 footballs on to pitch to get the game stopped. That is the most cynical thing I've seen in my life.
All counties are cynical at times. Get over it

It's certainly not the first time a Kerry side has played in a cynical manner though yesterday's performance by Crokes was possibly as cynical as anything we have seen from a Kerry team. I was just pointing out that 9 months ago many Tyrone and Donegal posters recognised that it was a sensible tactic used by many sides, including their own, in the modern game. Now we have them lining up to say how disgraceful Crokes are and trying to claim their own teams never used systematic fouling as a tactic. It's laughable nonsense. I remember 6 different members of 1 minor team being yellow carded for fouling the same player in an All-ireland minor football final.

A term no doubt used between the same family members in Kerry.

Ulster posters going off on one about Crokes when it was their opponents that finished with 14 men (courtesy of a punch in the balls), and most of Crokes scores were courtesy of frees.

But no, it was Crokes that were the cynical side.

Yer some shower..."
A lot of these posters had their minds made up long before ball was thrown in. Any excuse to have a go

Not much has changed for Dr Crokes - from a report on the Munster GAA site on a match between Dr Crokes and Kilmurry-Ibrickane:

"By that stage, Crokes' defending was desperate and cynical and McInerney's fifth free, one minute into the additional two signalled by referee Conor Lane, made it a one-point game. However, Crokes, sensing the significance of the moment, put an onus on winning the next kick-out and, with Colm Cooper heavily involved, played enough keep-ball until the Cork official blew for full-time."

Cynical, time-wasting - that's their blurprint

Yeah and if Tyrone was ahead, they probably would lie on the ground like a PL player from a gust of wind....again, people on this site seem to have a problem understanding the English language, once more for these people.... I said more cynical

I read this link and the only person condoning the tactical fouling was a lone poster called lockjaw. He may well have his own personal reasons for encouraging and expecting cynical play but it certainly doesn't reflect the zeitgeist of the vast majority. This topic should not be monopolized by a single county, club team or province. It is a scourge of the game that we all need to meet head on. I would also say that conceding that these tactics are now part of the game is a very poor reflection on the way that the GAA have dealt with the issue and the way the referees have not enforced the rules. One or 2 games of several black cards in a row or the introduction of the sin bin could do wonders. Better again, a heavy fine of the club and county board would really get the people with influence to speak up. The idea that boys will be boys or it's only part of the game are clichés that seem to facilitate this behavior again and again.

The part I was laughing at was the suggestion that teams who play the defensive system didn't necessarily use cynical fouling as a tactic - fouling in the opponents half when you lose the ball is a key part of it. As Muck pointed out in the other thread Donegal have been doing it for years as have many other sides, for posters to try and claim otherwise is just wrong. There was far too much of it in Tralee last night as well. Any time the GAA have tried to do something about this it has been opposed by influential managers who rely on it as a tactic - maybe now that a Kerry team have won an All-ireland with it there may be more appetite for change. I agree with you entirely that it's widespread and needs to be addressed.
