I think club games on a Saturday makes a lot of sense, it frees the players up for the rest of the weekend which is only fair.

I do like my Sunday intercounty games though I must admit. I don't work weekends but I tend to work around the house, do shopping, go gym, look after other outstanding errands/odd jobs etc etc on Saturdays. Sunday is a great day to do nothing or.......attend/watch a Gaa game if there's one on and have a few brews aswell, it fits into the weekend nicely.

Plus the thoughts of work the next day has never bothered me in the slightest, to fcuk with it, you're off for the whole day, enjoy it, you'll be long enough pushing up daisies!!!

"Some of the upcoming Championship games should be played on a Saturday evening as a trial. Sunday is proving to be very inconvenient now as many people want to do other things." Ulsterman (Antrim)

Yes, I agree, it would be worth floating the idea amongst the GAA hierarchy that some of the championship fixtures are held next year on a Saturday evening on a trial basis. Obviously the qualifiers are already held mainly on Saturdays so I would talking about first round championship matches, etc.

how is a club player supposed to play a game on Saturday afternoons/evening when many work on a Saturday. I know in my club there are many who work Saturdays. And the students who come home all work Saturdays for obvious reasons.

Sunday games are not outdated. A lot of people are busy enough on Saturdays.

That's a fair point the Fridge but on the other hand there are also many players who would like the option to go out and socialise on a Saturday night (particularly early in the year before the championship comes closer) but they can't because they're tied up with a league match on a Sunday and also I'm sure there's plenty of players who would like to spend time with their families on a Sunday rather than trekking around the county to play an away league match.

Looking at the discussion on this forum, it seems there is a genuine appetite for more Saturday football, I think it would be worthwhile for the CPA and GPA to poll and survey their players to see what the level of interest is for more games on a Saturday.
