Replying To AthCliath:  "What way can you restructure a Gaa competition that includes Dublin, Kerry, Tyrone, Mayo, Donegal. that will give Leitrim, Antrim, Wicklow, Longford, Carlow a chance would you suggest."
It's not about giving them a chance. It's about raising standards.

Anything providing more games in the summer would be a help.

Eight groups of four, each containing a team from the four League divisions - Carlow & London get three Senior Championship games (with at least one at home). After groups, top two in each group play knockout from last 16 onwards, bottom two play All-Ireland B, should the counties wish to do so.

This will further congest a fixture calender that's already a mess and make it harder for counties with a thinner panel to qualify for the semi finals- like Tipp last year. It will crucify clubs, especially in Mayo, Dublin, Kerry, Tyrone and Donegal who have been near perennial quarter finalists. It's a money grab and nothing else.

There is more time for the clubs now as the All-Ireland finals have been moved forward to August so the Super 8s will be over by the end of July.

Of all the things being thrown at this proposal the whole 'it does nothing for the club player' mantra doesn't stand up.

Maybe it doesn't go far enough for the club players but to say it does nothing is disingenuous imo.

As a club player, it's safe to say that this will be my last year playing GAA. No thoughts at all about the club player with this motion passing.
I call on all club teams to pull their county players back. We're sick of it!

??????

So because they have now given more time to the clubs you won't be playing club anymore?

Seems a bit odd to bring the all ireland final forward nearly a month and add in 8 more games, will this mean the league will start earlier which would be a bit disappointing as it's been growing as a competition year on year with the current time of year it's played in.

I would say the gaps between games at the provincial part of the championship will be reduced. They take way too long to complete.

Nope, provincials will be played off quicker.

I agree the league is becoming a very good competition.

All this talk of formats.

Something very simple like playing the National league in parallel with a pre-qualifiers style championship in the summer could have been interesting.

In that scenario could the league gather importance so that the 2 competitions have similar prestige.

every year our club is out of the championship by mid autumn

I don't see how this gives more time for club games? September is an unknown month for most clubs

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Qualifiers have lost their lustre. Time will tell as to whether the prize of a place in the Super 8 will invigorate the qualifiers.

I would say that from here its all downhill as far as the GAA is concerned.
Its the same as politics - leaders out of touch with the general public.
Who knows what the full consequences will be but it will not be good.

Nothing like a bit of melodrama to top things off.

Judging by reaction from inter county players they are all against the super 8 thing and are going mad.

Smells of an elitist and money orientated decision with no regard for players. Gives extra games to teams that are already getting plenty of games making quarters. What about the weaker counties? They certainly seem to be trying to milk gates at what they perceive to be higher profile matches. I'm not sure the appetite will be there to attend these matches with gusto though. The big teams in the group will pretty much be guaranteed a semi spot. There will be a few dead rubber matches and even the clash of the big 2 in the group will not be that important. But if people attend and revenues are up (maybe they think it will help with TV revenue) it's here to stay. Gotta love this quote from Duffy- "We're trying something new and if it doesn't work out I'll be the first to say let's move on to something else. I think it's a sensible decision by the GAA. Let's see how it goes. We have to be prepared to try something and I think this is worth the experiment. If after three years we find it hasn't delivered we had hoped it would deliver, then we'll try something else." Black card anyone?

One thing that needs to called out straight away is that the players have absolutely zero right to criticize this as a money making venture because they are the ones who are causing the need for the GAA to make more money by placing extra demand on county boards to provide them everything they need in search of success so if it is solely a money making venture (and it isn't) as some thin ten the player are the one creating the need for it.

4 provincial winners.

4 round 4 qualifier winners.

Sames as the current quarter finals.

"Super 8," they should have called it "Super Glue" because wherever a county is now in the pecking order, that's where they'll stick and that includes Offaly, no matter what motion is passed something like the Sky deal once it's in it'll stick too, be it a success or failure venture.

Joke . We're off to hell in a handcart .
Modern day Ireland doesn't deserve the GAA and it's ethos .
Shame on them

Don't know exactly how this will work. All Ireland brought forward and 8 extra games. Are we still going to have teams in Connacht going 4 5 weeks without a game. How exactly is it going to give more time to club games I hope Croke Park comes out quickly with a layout of hw all this is going to work The big problem with this format as i see it There will be no longshot in the semi finals which will be a pity

the provincial championships will be played off much quicker. There will be a big reduction in gaps between matches.
