A league FINAL kid ;-) but ya we still haven't beaten ye in championship since 09 .

We are still deep in transition but there are green shoots starting to appear .

As for mayo Beating us , that could very well happen but we'll make them work for it.

Ye are definitely the team to beat and that's for sure.

It would be an intersting study the correlation between U21 success and senior, even minor and senior. If you took the Dubs as a sample 3 A.I. U21s this decade (hopefully a fourth), 4 senior All Ireland's. The Mayo lads will be hoping its true, while other recent winners Galway and Tyrone have gone on to provincial success and the later stages of the championship with a bit of headroom development wise."
You're right it would be interesting for someone to do a study on U21 winning allirelands at senior level.

I mentioned on here the other day that Cork beat our U21s in 2012 by 22 points and out of that team we got James o'donaghue Paul geaney Brian Kelly Jonathan lyne and Peter Crowley who all won senior allirelands in 2014.

Underage success is great but it guarantees you nothing really, that's why I won't be panicking about last Saturday,

A funny thing I noticed about the game on Saturday was that if you took the first 10 mins out of it , we won the next 50 odd minutes 2:09 to 1:06 but that's neither here nor there :-0

Firstly congratulations to Dublin on a well deserved victory on Saturday. Despite losing one of their key players early on, they showed admirable tactical discipline to counteract Donegal's running game and no little skill and composure at the other end to put the game well out of our reach.
I felt even midway through the first half the game was passing us by a bit and it was going to take a goal for us to make things interesting. It never materialized however and Dublin punished us repeatedly.

I would agree with a lot of other posters' comments about our plan A being very good against a lot of teams. But against the better teams, who are more equipped to deal with it, we definitely do need a plan B and even C. I watched a replay of the 2011 Ulster final last week. Back then we had Mickey Hegarty who was not afraid of launching good early ball into Murphy and McFadden. Now granted, Murphy and McFadden are/were once in a generation type full forwards. I just wonder with the trend of the last few years of producing ultra fit, strong and mobile half backs/forwards, are we missing a trick in neglecting our development of the good old style mercurial inside forward? You know the type - a contrary fella who isn't happy unless every ball is being played into him and he isn't scoring 5 or 6 points a match?

I have an awful premonition that the seniors may well be beaten in a similar fashion the first big team we face this summer.

Am hugely surprised, but pleasantly so that Dublin are in the final. A brilliant team performance and i feared the worst when King Con, rugby tackled and got lack after 3 minutes, deserved black card uder the rules by the way, straight out of the Dermo Connolly flawed genius handbook. On reflection ive been a little hard on this vintage i think ive previously said only King Con, Comerford and Byrne (maybe) would make the senior panel eventually. After yesterdays showing you can add the back three to that and Paul Howard looks some player as well was a joy to watch him yesterday. Was very impressed with Murchan as well. Great to see Clayton come on and come back from injury. Thought Basquel played very well and showed up for a lot of the ball in King Cons absence, his finishing was massively poor for a player with his big game experience. Loosing Foley to injury as well didn't help but didn't deter a great team performance. King Con needs to buy his teammates a few rounds over the next couple of nights.

I thought Donegal lost it in the tactical battle, Dessie had the team well prepared for how Donegal would set up. I was amazed they didn't change tack from their game plan. Some of their shot selection was very poor and constantly recycled the ball when going for the throat was the better option. Heads never dropped though and a very good team, you would have to say the Ulster Council has a lot to answer for given the length of time they had to prepare for the game. The GAA just can never get it right, can they.

What a game Kerry Vs Galway was, what a team Galway looked. All the more remarkable given the success as a minor team have have had and the hope and expectations of this first wave of this cycle Kerry under age generation. Undoubtedly very talented skillful players but you never know how lads will develop through the age groups, skill will take you so far and when other teams are equally as skillful, more physically developed and down right better battlers then your in trouble. Galway were miles the better team and look a very serious outfit and likely to be going forward some wonderful players in every line. The Kerry lads would know more then me, but i think Spillane will add to the senior ranks and i was very impressed with Kerry's Keeper yesterday looks a very very good goal keeper and a hulk of presence.

Where to start with Galway some wonderful players in that squad really impressed with Ó Ceallaigh, Cooke, Darcy and Daly. But would be wrong to pick out players from a really brilliant team performance.

Hard to see beyond Galway after yesterdays performance, but think it will be a brilliant final, Galway have a tendency to concede decent scores. Hopefully Dublins good back line can road block the annihilation of the first quarter Galway imposed on Kerry."
I thought the Dublin v Donegal game was awful.

Think some of the comments regarding our set up are a bit harsh. I do think we need to vary it more, but really it's not about letting the ball in to the forwards early, it's getting out of defence quicker. Dublin were very well set up and incredibly well disciplined - there's really not enough credit being given to the work they did without the ball. They completely nullified a team that were scoring for fun all year. That's no easy task and it's not just because we play a running game.

You couple the brilliant intensity from the Dubs with poor shooting on our part and a real lack of accuracy especially in the 2nd half (any time we did break the line, the final pass wasn't right which killed any goal chances we may have had), and that's what you get on Saturday. Sometimes that type of game happens, where your first few shots are all poor wides or dropped into the keeper and the confidence drops and the energy saps out of your legs a little bit. And with every wayward shot under pressure that gives the Dubs a great boost as they can see their tactics are working. We do need to be adaptable to force a situation like Saturday to change. This is where management is really important. The players seem a little unsure of what to do, so they repeat the same thing over and over in the hope of a goal and that'll be the game changer. Rather than moving the defence about more to try and create space. It's not all about kicking.

Saying that I wouldn't be tearing up the playbook just like I wasn't overly worried about our playing style after losing to Dublin in the 1/4 final last year.

Anyway, massive congrats to Dublin I was really impressed with how they played especially after losing O'Callaghan so early. Byrne was fantastic but it was defensively that I admired the most, they were absolutely fantastic. Credit to Galway as well for a complete performance, I'll be interested to see how the Dubs set up against those forwards.

A final word on our lads. They are a great bunch and I'm delighted for them that they got their Ulster title. I can't wait to see some of them this summer for the seniors and going forward into the future. A credit to the county.
