Spillane and the Mayo no hopers

This thread still going? Spillane is a dinosaur who loves the attention, who cares? I want Mayo to stay out of relegation trouble, nothing else. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they pushed on and won the league and didn't win Sam people would say they got carried away with the league. If they finish mid table and don't win Sam people will say the writing was on the wall from their average league form.

spot on TheFlaker....the sad reality for All ireland winning contenders is that the league and the early rounds of of the championship is nothing short of just flirting. The league might be some indicator of what form a county is in but it really doesn't matter if a team loses in the grander scheme of things.
I wouldn't care if Kerry lost every league game and then went on to win Sam.
Spillane in this instance tried to get his jibe about Mayo in early so he can say "I told you so". But it has backfired on him.

It's gas the more and more teams are becoming professional yet they play in such amateur competitions. any competition where a defeat doesn't really matter is not worthy of being called a competition. The league is only a warm up for the championship and the provincial championships are now really just a warmup for the real deal which is the 1/4 finals in August and for a few back door games where a true contender might have to come through.

Some people are getting carried away with themselves, it's only the 2nd game in the League, it's mid February, Mayo were very poor against Monaghan, 1st half v Kerry was pathetic, I'm more worried about the next few games. Home against Roscommon with they on 0 pts 2 defeats from 2, they won't want to lose 3 in a row, they will push hard for the win and if Mayo heads aren't right Mayo will be beaten, then the dubs in Croke Park that will either be a tight enjoyable game or a thrashing at the hands of Dublin, after getting ourselves on track again we could easily be in trouble by the time we play Cavan in round 5 in Castlebar. Sam is the ultimate and only prize Mayo people want but even when we eventually win that it will be labelled as a soft title unless we beat most of the following teams Dublin, Kerry, Cork, Galway, Roscommon, Tyrone, Donegal.

A bit of balance here if your not going to get Carried away with a defeat then you can't get carried away with a win.

For me theirs 3 teams that can win Sam this year Mayo Kerry and Dublin what's happened in the first two league games has not changed that. So chill people.
