I think people are getting confused with tradition and talent. There isn't much between any of the sides here in division 2. I'd fancy the two that came up to go down but again there wont be much in it.

We should in theory by certs to go up. It is not too long since a good portion of the team were winning Division 1 titles. That said, I get the feeling here, that our lads are already getting their excuses in. We don't have a good county board but none of the officers there go on the field and kick a ball. It is getting really tiresome at this stage. I think we can get up but only because, with the exception of Fermanagh and Clare, the other teams don't look like they are playing to potential either. Would not be surprised if Fermanagh were promoted.

In Pete we trust. Atm we are just looking at securing safety in the Division. After that who knows?

Meath and Galway are the two teams that impressed me last year when Tyrone won the division last year and I think they are stronger than the two teams coming down from Division one.

Royaldunne you said it already "Never underestimate a great manager" that is why I think Fermanagh will be in with a shout for promotion, Pete McGrath is a very clever manager. I would rate him and Mikey Harte as the best currently involved with county teams. Of the other teams Galway should be favorites for promotion, they are the Connacht champions after all, but they can sometime let you down. Both Galway and Derry are boggy teams for Meath so that would worry me slightly regarding our chances. Derry always preform well in the league so they will fancy their chances of promotion. Meath & Kildare at the minute there is probably only the kick of a ball between them so I wouldn't be surprised if they finish 3rd and 4th.
Clare are a bit of an unknown, they have preformed well in the last twelve months but will they be able to consistently do that against stronger teams. Cork remind me of Meath a couple of years ago, can be good or can be terrible so I wouldn't be surprised to see them relegated. Finally Down are a totally unknown as usual, some good players and can play lovely football but liable to travel badly.
So based on what we have seen in the last 12 months and taking management changes into account I would guess division 2 will finish something like this, unfortuently for Meath, with positions 2 - 6 equal on points but seperated by scoring differences.
1 Galway
2 Fermanagh
3 Meath
4 Kildare
5 Derry
6 Down
7 Cork
8 Clare.

I went through all of the league fixtures last night and came up with this league table.

Galway 9
Cork 9
Kildare 7
Derry 7
Down 6
Meath 5
Fermanagh 5
Clare 4

Galway to finally return to div one and cork to bounce straight back.

At the other end this will be a level too high for Clare but they won't go down without a fight. Fermanagh and Meath to have a real relegation dogfight on their hands with Meath to get the rub of the green to avoid relegation on GD of course they have the experience of doing so recently and that should be a big help for the mammoth task for their new management. Their bravery taking on a team stuck in limbo with club and underage poor for so long has to be admired I hope just they are given the time and room to do a decent job and ridiculous expectations isn't placed on them like with their last management.

To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if Cork,Galway,Fermanagh,Meath,Derry,Kildare went up. I would be a little surprised if Down or Clare went up,but wouldn't be surprised if they stayed up.

This is an aspect were Meath really struggle. At underage Meath have only started to do weights, gym work etc since last year.I still think that the senior squad overall needs to bulk up.Most dv1 teams have a physical presence and mental toughness.I believe McEntee is the right man to lead Meath, but it could take 3 years for him to see big improvements.

Strangely enough I would have said this is one of the least physically imposing KIldare teams of the last 20 years.. Its a very young team"
That is strange..

What did Offaly look like compared to them though?

So Meath will be bottom?

Am I missing something?,I notice the Rossie's in particular running Meath down a bit. :)

Meath need serious changes to their mental approach if they want do anything this year. A bit too soft and can't afford to throw away leads like they have in past few years"
Yeah I think you are right with your assessment of Meath here to be fair.

Hard to argue with the first part. Also, Roscommon (who scored 4-24 against at home last year) are of a similar standard to the teams in this division hence it is plausible that we could lose all of our games. On the flip side, we can then mix it with the best as well and you would like to think that if we do end up getting hammered in a similar way, we will bounce back with a win. I am not contemplating relegation ....yet!!

Meath impressed you against Tyrone last year? I think Tyrone beat us handy enough in 3rd gear.

Galway rarely win in Navan though. But I agree with you regarding Fermanagh and Pete McGrath.

ziggy32001 lets hope that Galway continue to rarely win in Navan, as its a fourth round game, we will have a better idea of what way things might be heading by then. At the minute its all a wet finger in the air stuff. No one can even confidently name 12 payers that are guaranteed to start on any of the 8 teams. So predicting the out come at the minute is a bit pointless. All we can do is assume all teams have improved on last year and that there will be some close entertaining matches. As a Meath fan its nice to think we could be in with a fair shout of promotion - hopefully.

Fermanagh have lost a big number of players, through retirement, injury and travel, and have only three home games so it is difficult to see them pushing for a promotion spot. I have a soft spot for Fermanagh but I think that even Pete''s skillful management won't be enough.

Absolutely..

Also some players are injured. Tobin,J.McEntee,Newman and not sure when they are due back. It is very difficult to say how well we can do and we need to take one game at a time.I suspect alot of fans of other teams would share that opinion too.
