Should supporters have a selector to ensure that their views are looked after

Replying To GreenandRed:  "A good idea Tom but maybe more as an advisor rather than having a supporters rep as selector. Just someone who will query any decisions that the majority of supporters have questions on. It's up to players and management to sort out team issues. I don't see the sense of not being happy if players revolt but then wanting supporters to have a selector to represent their views, seems a contradiction. But it's a fair point and I couldn't say no to it as it's not been done before as far as I know. Might stop some county board politics where players from certain clubs seem to be picked more often."
Sure haven't Mayo 30 players querying every decision managements make!!

Replying To riverboys:  "No, that's what your club officers are for, they are suppose to listen to our views and pass them on at co board meetings but as we all know most clubs are in a click of their own and won't speak up for their club members at co board meetings, afraid to rock the boat"
I would agree with you and add that most of the better guys in clubs keep their efforts to work within their own club.

look I am comming from a point of view that I have seen very few selectors or County Board Officials supporting the team manager once the heave starts. I feel that in one County where the ousted manager waited for a full year and a few month he was accused by some of betrayal and reducing that Counties chances of winning an All Ireland. In that particular case when did you see a County Board Official taking on the bully Boys. Maybe I am mistaken but I can not recall anyone close to the team speaking out when a decent manager was ousted. Might be the second heave in that County and I dont recall the Bully Boys exposed no all was swept under the carpet
So I say get a supporters representative who is not aligned to the inner circle to tell us and let the Bully Boys know that we all know what is happening

While the heading space will not allow me explain my post fully, I feel that the time is long past a due date when Supporters should demand a selector on all County GAA teams to ensure proper Goverance is adhered to at all times. Corporate governance broadly refers to the mechanisms, processes and relations by which corporations are controlled and directed. It now costs a GAA supporter at least about 400/500 Euros per person in a household to get to see a county team. Take travel and and other bits and pieces you are into about E1500 .
This is a large amount of money.
You then hear about players organising a heave against a team manager because of some minor issue or because the manager tries to rein in a few larger than life players.
We supporters have to stand idly by and are unable to vent our views. At least if we had a selector/advisor on the set up we could be kept informed and not have to wait for a player (who went along with the hanging) to break ranks and expose what really happened to good and decent managers"

Tomsmith has a point but there is a way for supporters to voice their concerns, in Mayo at the end of 2006 the management was removed/resigned, a new manager was put in place for 2007 even though the new manager had said on local radio at the start of 2006 that the problems that he left at the end of 1989 was still there in 2006, nothing changed for the 2007 season so why did he take the job? Politics. As a result of this a large number of Mayo supporters refused to attend matches, also there were people who won match tickets in competitions or were given free tickets by family and friends and they refused to take them. The whole thing was a mess but a large number of Mayo supporters demanded that the co board stop using the Mayo set up for political gain, we still demand this and if the co board, players or management start taking the p##s again we will protest by refusing to attend matches, cancelling season tickets and destroying them on social media and radio. It's the players that play the game but it's the supporters who pay for the players and co board sinners, team holidays, hotels etc. Without us they have nothing

Well Damon I can tell you that the whiule the GAA is a product that is marketed/ rolled out by well meaning peoiple in every County Board one group of people the supporters that who travel long distances to see the home team have no say. Take all the Dublin based Cavan men/woman who would love to support Mattie now that Cavan is on a roll these people have no input The same goes for all other Counties the Supporters have no say. Look at the revelations that came out recently about how a decent manager was ousted by senior players and not a word was spoken untill one of the players who is now away broke ranks and went top the press. If the supporters had our own selector we would have the inside story and know what was happening.

To be consistent and ensure adequate coverage -
There should be a 'Gaelic Supporters Assoc' (to take care of the County brigade) and separately, a 'Club Supporters Assoc' (to take care of the little guys)

The funniest part of this thread is that some people are actually seriously discussing it.

I was just thinking that! I was wondering why this was towards the top of page 1.

Supporters don't need a selector. They can vote with their feet. If attendances plummet by 50% (or sufficient percentage you feel), the powers that be will wake up and do something about... whatever it is that's going wrong. Ticket prices I assume.

Supporters don't need their own selector to know the inside story though. They need someone who's independent from county board who can inform supporters of any potentially contentious move, a supporters club rep might be enough. Like county underage squads representing a good spread of clubs but when it's pared down has a less even spread of players and a few left out, which surprised parents of players from the larger squad.

Holmes and Connelly were weak in their dealings with some players in my opinion. They had the backing of seven senior players. Of the remainder some were encouraged to vote against them. Someone asked me what could they do? Leaving was their only option, they couldn't risk a player strike. But I think that's exactly what they should have done, saying lads we're going nowhere off ye go on strike. I'm fairly sure that all those that voted against them would not have striked. If any did, seemingly with no serious issues for their cause, it would have been nearly treason in Mayo for county seniors to strike with no agenda other than get rid of two men because they told them some home truths. No need for a supporters selector there, just management with balls.
