yes you are correct, they should develop one of the fields of Athenry for the county team

Simple fact is that Galway want to have an equal footing like every other county and have all their team's competing within a "Provincial Structures like every other county.

Not often I get to say this but I'm proud with the stance our county board are taking on this and making it a national issue.

Unfortunately narrow minded counties with their own personal agendas are the one's that stand in the way of common sense and fairness but sure that's nothing new in the GAA world.

In fairness, I am actively involved in a hurling club, drink in my local pub in Wexford as well as in the town itself, and I've yet to hear 1 normal GAA person who has an objection to Galway being involved in Leinster.

As I said before the best structure would be two 'groupings' - let the provincial councils run them if that would get them through - Group 1- The 5 Munster Hurling Counties, 2 home games, 2 away games - top team get's 'home' for the final - 2v3 in a playoff - Group 2 - 4 Leinster and Galway - same format for the Christy Ring - allow the Ring winners a way back into the all ireland proper with the provincial runners up and 2v3 play off losers - If a Christy Ring County is consistently winning at underage/league etc. then promote them to a group instead of another team or add a round of games.

To be fair to the provincial councils Galway doesn't come under their remit.

The GAA at a central level should have taken control of this year's ago.

You could have a National group stage played parallel to Provincial championships.

3 groups of 4 top 2 from each into knockout rounds.

Munster and Leinster champions get a bye to the semifinals if they get out of their group, otherwise. If one of those provincial champions fails to get out of their group then an extra team gets added to the quarterfinals.

Could be run at all levels.

Keeps meaningful Provincial championships but properly incorporates Galway into the competition without a need for it to be part of a province.

And the sun always shines in Thurles you'll tell us next!
It took me and hour and a half to get from Thurles to Templemore one year so spare me the traffic horror stories.

The powers that be in the GAA have let the grass grow under their feet on the issue of the Hurling Championship. It needs radical re structuring in my opinion.Putting Galway into Leinster was papering over the cracks.Putting them in Leinster without their underage teams was a joke and should not have been accepted.
Its time to get real boys, lets face it most of us could name the All ireland hurling finalists for 2017 right now.

Kilkenny have contested 11 of the last 12 finals. Tipp have contested 5 of the last 8 finals. Bookies have them at 5/2 and 2/1 respectively to win it next year with Galway a cold third favs at 11/2. That should narrow it down for you.

Any team can get into the all ireland proper in any year by winning the Christy Ring cup - win a few minor/u-21's and progress up the league and the case becomes compelling to be added to one of the groups.

Take your pick from Kk, Tipp, Waterford & Galway.
Maybe Limerick or Clare.

Replying To Pinkie:  "So what do people think of Galway's unanimous decision last night to play in 1 province and 1 only?
From a Wexford perspective, I was embarrassed to see Liam Griffin, etc throwing up a white flag to Galway being increased competition. I think increased competition is good for Leinster, Wexford, Kilkenny, Dublin, etc. It is also good for Galway.

I would support Galway in at every level, including provincial club championships, but are we then heading down a route where the Leinster and Munster champions play on St. Patricks day as a result? I would not support removing the knock-out nature of this championship.
I can see not any reason why Galway should not be in Leinster hook line and sinker.

But the flip side, is this yet again Galway blaming somebody else for their own falings? They blamed Anthony Cunningham, players, and now they are blaming the fact that they don't get a home game? The last time I looked, Croke Park is not in Galway and that is the sword on which they fall every time."
All good points and I agree with all bar one.

Nobody in Galway is 'blaming' any loss on not being in Leinster. It would be nice to go and support Galway and bring my younger cousins along with me to a game with the boundaries of Galway - even every 2nd year. I think that's fair?

Big difference between Salthill for a league game and Salthill during the summer!

That said I agree with the traffic congestion problem that exists. I think they would need to come up with a strategic traffic management plan which involved park-and-ride from Ballybrit or similar.

the more i have thought about this the more i think this is more of galway looking for excuses now that blaming a succession of managers, dropped players, etc have worn out.
having known plenty of galway gaa people over the years through college in limerick, there seems to be a toxic club rivalry where clubs absolutely hate one another and can't put their rivalries aside and unite for a county cause.
every county has their club rivalries and none more than my own,but i think galway seems worse than normal in that count.
