Jackie Tyrrell

Onto page 2 now Janesboro! Let me know if you want it to get to a 3rd page and I'll just say that Jackie was never able to cope with Lar Corbett or was only half the corner back that Seams Hickey was. Both statements would be wrong of course as Jackie was an all-time great but I'm just highlighting for you how discussion boards work.

To have a discussion there needs to be differing views. It's a bit disrespectful to Jackie and posters on here to say that there is more interest in anti-rugby threads than the retirement of an all time great. It's just that nobody has much interest in reading 100 consecutive posts of "hat tipped". The first few replies on here summed it all up well. If you want a discussion on his career then start one up.

. It's a bit disrespectful to Jackie and posters on here to say that there is more interest in anti-rugby threads than the retirement of an all time great. its factual - far more posts on anti rugby stuff than on this

there is one already started we are on it- i note you didnt contribute yourself until i posted yesterday

to paraphrase junior judge i thought he was awesome super reading of the game, teak tough without taking a cheap shot, superb distribution as well, nice touch usually under pressure too - he really had all the box of tricks at 34 he will still be a colossus at club level knowing kilkenny he will soon enough be coaching the kids and imparting his skill and knowledge to the next generation

I agree with everything you said on Jackie there, and all that has been said about him by other posters. There are many on here, including yourself, who saw him play live a lot more often than me and better placed to comment on his greatness. If there was any comment I disagreed with I'd comment then, like the silly suggestion that posters are more interested in being anti other sports.

One of the best corner backs of all time no doubt. Only a few I'd have ahead of him. The one thing I would say though he definitely had a few cheap shots in his locker which the youtube video of the frontal charges on a few young players showed. However, I've done similar myself so I can't say much.
A KK great.

Would he be a better corner back than Eddie O Connor,Mick Kavanagh and Paul Murphy? All top Kilkenny defenders and hard to call.

I think it's harder to judge Tyrells generation as they were so successful. One person could argue he was surrounded by greats while another could say he was one of the great!
For me he was possibly more important that both Walsh and JJ but that's just my opinion.
