Replying To GreenandRed:  "How was Diarmuid O'Connor nominated for Young Player of the Year ? He's a class act but was miles from last years form. Is it purely down to the U21 win?"
Well, he did win an All-Ireland with the U21s and seems to be integral to the Mayo set up now. He might not have been at the level of last year but he is easily the best young player in the country right now and one of the best players in the country full stop. No other young player in the country who is as important to a senior team as O'Connor is to Mayo.

Right Jack,
Settle down now.
That's the end of the tele so.

Replying To neverright:  "My selection would be:
Clarke
Harrison Cooper Durkan
Keegan O'Sullivan Donnelly
Parsons Fenton
Kilkenny Connolly Harte
Geaney Quinlivan McManus

POY Keegan"
IMO Conor McManus is the best footballer in the country, even better than Connolly. Take Connolly out of the Dublin team and theyd still be formidable, take McManus out of the Monaghan team and they're 7th or 8th in Ulster.
But based on this year, no way should he get an all star. The rest of your team is pretty spot on apart from possibly Parsons.

In my humble opinion Keegan is the best player in the country.

Unbelievable achievement for Austin Gleeson.

Keegan and Gleeson were the right choices. The two best players in their respective codes this year.

Well deserved for Keegan. I wouldn't have minded Fenton either. Classy stuff from the Dubs on social media who seem to think this is a crazy fix. Hill 16 page is a disgrace as usual.

Replying To barker:  "Not sure how many All Stars Mayo players have won over the past 10 years or so but it is probably between 20 and 30. This is an unreal amount given the number of All Ireland medals that they have won.
They are almost guaranteed a provincial final place every year, provided they dont draw Galway and then they head for Dublin all guns blazing only to get beat every single time. There is always an excuse that hides the one inescapable fact that they just aint good enough. A couple of decent players performing heroically in Croke Park usually hides their obvious deficiencies and they draw solace from these performances and the inevitable haul of All Star awards. If they had to play in either the Ulster or Leinster championships the number of All Star awards that they would possess could be counted on one hand.
For this reason alone, the current system of selection is not only flawed but broken. The National League should be given more weight in the selection procedures but this would only mean that Dublin would in all fairness pick up 10 or maybe 12 each year."
Strange post. Seems more of a rant against Mayo than against the All Star selections. If you are going to base the awards on All Ireland medals won, why not just give the awards to the fifteen players on the winning team. Mayo wouldn't have any in that case so you could sleep easy. Now that we have a player of the year in our ranks we'll be mad to go again next year. Only problem is we'll have to lose to Sligo in order to avoid the mighty Galway. Problems, problems.

I'd have McManus down as first named on any forward line , he is and has been the best forward in Ireland this last few years"
Is McManus not a better player than Kilkenny and Connolly and Michael Murphy ?

Every silver lining has a cloud eh !
Why bother looking where you know there is always going to be negativity ?
Take the positives and leave that stuff to those who post it.

Not surprised Keegan and Gleeson won POTY awards. Seem like decent lads too.
Gleeson is an outstanding talent and could well go on to achieve greatness over the coming years.

No doubt about Keegans football ability, super player but if you give him player of the year you are excusing his off the ball behaviour. If your coaching kids you are saying to them here is the best footballer in Ireland just close your eyes when you see him catching fellas in a headlock or catching him by the throat & I'm not talking about just the Dublin games. Yes he spoke well & very humbly & shook hands with his nemesis after the All Ireland which shows he has class off the field as well. I would just like to see him put all his focus into his football.

We go to Dublin plenty of times and win and win against teams from Ulster and Leinster and Munster. Dublin have the best team out there and they played the best overall but not a hole lot better than Mayo. We maybe should have beaten them in the drawn final but then say Dublin don't get the two goals and are chasing the game then it changes teams play differently. Mayos all stars are all in defence which is where we were strongest and probably better than anyone else bar and few hairy moments

not his biggest fan because of some off his off the ball antics but no denying keegan is a super player and in my opinion he deserved to win poty because despite his faults I think he is the most talented player in the country.
