He's a talented hurler no doubt, at club level though.

He's never played top class hurling and at 29 he just doesn't have the hours of hurling done to make an impact. Conal Keaney was a bit of a freak in that he was able to come back and make a contribution at senior level, but even he was a shadow of how good he was before he went with the football. The man could have one of the greats in hurling.

Same goes for Costello, Kilkenny, Lowdnes, Ó Conghaile, Brady et al. It's far too late for any of them to go playing hurling to a level that we need in Dublin. All of them could have been excellent inter-county hurlers but they'll never be now.

One of Dublin hurling's biggest problems is that our lads do not specialise early enough in comparison to the top hurling counties. Our lads do not have the comparative hours done like the Tipp, Kilkenny, Galway etc lads.

its still a very niche topic for the main forum. better yet, its a nothing topic, considering there has been no indication that he wants to make the switch. any wonder some are hijacking it and most are avoiding it.

So should he go hurling??"
Sorry , got sidetracked there. On you question, no, I don't think he should. Let him play with Vincent's if he wants but he would be far better off concentrating on his football at this stage. The hurlers have regressed I think and will need totally committed and young blood to build for the future. Unfortunately , it looks like they are back in the chasing pack again.

Once he gets the better of Lee Keegan, then you can say he's done it all

Certainly looks like Pillar hung the right man out to dry all them years ago. Connolly could have vanished from the gaelic football scene if it weren't for Caffrey's intervention. Probably only a POTY award from joining the list of all time great players.

Diarmuid Connolly, Paul Flynn, MDMA, Tomás Brady, Paddy Andrews and Mick Savage (Cluxton's understudy) were all on the same minor panel. Paddy was young enough, I think he might have played 3 years, and Diarmuid was only a first year minor.

They won one game and were well beaten by Laois in the Leinster Semi-Final! Hard to credit now!

Pretty sure it was 2005. Have the match programme ;) And beaten by 7 points by Laois and should have been more. Only 1 Laois minor went on to play senior as far as i remember. David Conway and he's been peripheral. Says something about minor teams but still as a Laois man wtf happened there?!

I'd say they probably lost to Laois in 2005 as well but it was 2004 that Flynn, MDMA, Connolly, Andrews, Brady and Savage played together.

Connolly, Brady and Andrews would've been underage again in 2005 though.

Laois were quite strong underage at the time though. The won the minor All-Ireland in 2003 beating Dublin after a replay having lost the Leinster Final to the Dubs. Ger Brennan was on that team I think.

Where did Daithi Carroll go to? Think Laois brought a lot of the players 03/04 minor teams into senior setup to soon

It maybe another appreciation thread but it's not often you get a player of the ilk of Connolly coming along. He's a player you would repeatedly never be sick of paying to watch. Unpredictable, but always the chance of him pulling off a piece of magical skill that 99% of players can only dream of.

The only 2003/04 minor to make the senior setup in 2005 was Colm Begley. In 2006 Peter O'Leary and Brendan Quigley came on the scene. So not blooded too young imo. Red haired Colm Kelly St. Josephs broke his ankle at 19 in 2004. He was on the senior panel then but never really recovered.
