Roscommon f****d big time in that game, but then again, Mayo probably would have won Connacht.

Roscommon wouldn't have the mental toughness to beat Mayo, Galway caught them on a very flat day.

Replying To jimbodub:  "Dubs had to adapt to survive

For all the talk about this Dubs team I've been saying for a while that we were only a couple of players better than the chasing top teams

That was proven this year

McCaffrey / O'Carroll were major loses but we reshuffled moved a few lads around and had a game plan

Going for back to backs right away puts you at a major disadvantage, attach the loss of key players and is it any wonder why Dublin found it tough going

But despite all that to beat Donegal, Kerry and Mayo and being tested to the maximum

Add all of that together, it's easily one of the greatest AI's Dublin has ever won, to think they even went unbeaten

Mad stuff Ted"
Yeah agree totally. Savage stuff from Dublin this year. They did get the breaks against Mayo though, you have to admit that. On the other hand they had a freak 10 mins against Kerry and came back from that so the luck didn't always run their way.

Dublin v Mayo has the potential to develop in to a really fantastic rivalry. Though if it's to be remembered as such Mayo need to put one in the win column soon.

Roscommon haven't been good enough the last few years to beat Mayo. That's the reality unfortunately and nothing to do with mental toughness. We have a good record against them recently at underage and I'd be hopeful Ros will beat Mayo at senior in the not too distant future. This Mayo team is a long time on the road and while they are still the best team in Connacht, next Summer is a whole new ballgame and I'd expect both Ros and Galway to be competitive in Connacht.

I think the next two All Ireland finals will be Kerry v Dublin with Kerry beating Mayo in the semi final next year (remember they haven't lost a championship game to Mayo for 20 years) and 2018 Dublin beating them in the semi final. By 2019 Dillion,Andy and Barry Moran,Higgins,Boyle,Barrett,Cafferkey,S O Shea will all have likely retired from county football by then and while Mayo have some good underage players they don't have like for like replacements those players.

I would also be careful in taking too much out of this years U-21 All Ireland win as the standard of that competition was down in previous years and Mayo rode their luck to win it. In Coen,O Connor,Loftus the best players i feel from that U-21 team are already on the senior panel. A transition period is more likely for Mayo in the years ahead than winning the AL.

Yes, Roscommon very unlucky to lose by a point to Mayo in the Connacht U21 Final last April.

Yes very lucky in that Connacht final against Roscommon, Needed a very dubious free with the last kick of the game in the semi final v Dublin and goalkeeper mistake to overcome Cork in the final.

It should also be noted Roscommon,Cork,Dublin all had better U21 teams 2012-2015 than this year.

A tough draw for Mayo in Connacht? They will have to beat Sligo,Galway and Roscommon. If they go out flat they are dead and then hope for easy home draws in the back door.Add in the high mileage and mental fatigue,I dont think so.

High mileage is another one of those stupid GAA cliches.

Last year they played 9 championship games. That's a good bit more than usual but still that was 9 matches spaced out over 19 weeks. It's hardly going to have taken much out of their long term mental and physical reserves.
