All Stars for 2016

Replying To clondalkindub:  "Redbomb whatever the record number of all stars for one county is on a team we should be getting equal of that at least."
Why??

Should it not be awarded on the merit of each nominated individual this year?

If you look at the nomination list as printed on this site I this there are some fairly unsubtle clues in the order of the listings, I'd be surprised if the final list was too far away from the players in bold, ie the players at the top of the published lists for each position
Not saying I would be in complete agreement with each selection but I think it looks too close to be a coincidence

And where is ciaran McManus Monaghan, best forward in Ireland by a mile for years.alll stars a joke, very easy to get nominated when there are great footballers covering around you.the weaker countries deserve far more nominations.

The All Stars including players of the year are now becoming a joke Lee Keegan is a great player but they are only nominating him based on the drawn game and the 20 mins he lasted in the replay, he was average enough for every other game before that, for young player Diarmuid O'Connor played excellent against Kildare and was solid v Tyrone but was poor in other matches so in my view both Mayo players shouldn't have been nominated, both Dublin and Mayo are lucky to get 11 nominations each because Dublin didn't break sweat in Leinster and beat a tired Donegal team in quarter, the tough games were Kerry and the 2 Mayo games and according to media and pundits every Dublin player in drawn game was useless so what are they basing their votes on, Mayo also played 3 good games Tyrone and Dublin and a lot of players especially in the replay were poor so again what's going on, did they put their names on a sheet of paper and throw darts at it to nominate people

Ciarán McManus was a fine footballer but I have to say his transfer to Monaghan from Offaly seems to have passed me by ;)

Pretty sure he retired from playing for Offaly maybe 5 years ago.

I noticed that - see my selection earlier.

The only thing that throws me off a bit is that Peter Harte is nominated in the forwards which makes it look like they're angling at giving him none there.

Kevin MacManamon and John Small have been massive for Dublin in 2016.

Mcmanus had a quiet game v Donegal. I don't know how he played v Longford or in Monaghan's first round game v down. Assuming he played well v down, that is not enough to win an all star.

McManus cant be included based on this year
Keegan was poor all year bar the finals, Boyle was Mayos best all year he deserves one
Id give goalie to Clarke
Harrison has been sticky but I dont understand why everyone is picking him for an all star. He did okay in most games but struggled at times. He got cleaned out of it against Galway by Cummins
My team would be:
Clarke
Higgins Cooper and??
Boyle Sullivan McCarthy
Fenton Brennan
Connoly Mcmanamon and??
Moran Quinlivan Geaney

As for the Galway players the 4 of them have been by far Galways best all year. Conroy bossed mayo and then roscommon twice but was poor vs Tipp. Comer was dangerous in all games as well as Cummins. Kyne was excellent vs Mayo and the two Roscommon games he put in three man of the match performances in a row. Against Tipp he was still Galways best alongside Comer. All of them have a slim chances of an allstar award with Kyne the most hopeful tribesman.

I see Alan Brogan has picked eight Dubs and only two from Mayo in his Allstar team. It's amazing to think that Mayo gave them a game at all considering they have such inferior players. Then I suppose, with Alans background, it's surprising he left out the other seven Dubs. Personally I think Cluxton, Harrison, Cooper, Harte, Keegan, Durkin, Fenton, McHugh, Kilkenny, Quinlevan, Geaney and Rock are shoe ins with the other three places up for grabs. Most posters have Connolly in their team but after an okay semi he was well marked in both final games. Even when Keegan went off young Coen kept him on a tight lead. McManaman after his semi performance may well get in, while Boyle, McMahon, Enright, Brennan, O Sullivan and Acheson have decent shouts. Not an easy team to pick as normally you would have four forwards from the finalists but with both defences having been on top, it opens the door for one or two who mightn't otherwise be selected.

Replying To Mobot:  "Based on the nominations:

1. Cluxton - to increase Dublin's tally because any of the 3 could get selected
2. McMahon
3. Cooper
4. Harrison
5. Keegan
6. Boyle
7. McHugh - may go with Durcan to give Mayo a 4th
8. Fenton POTY
9. Acheson - wouldn't be surprised if Brennan or Donnelly get picked here
10. Harte - feel he's been nominated as a forward for a reason
11. Connolly
12. Kilkenny
13. Geaney
14. Quinlivan
15. Rock"
Wasn't a bad attempt at it.....
