What county do you want to get in the draw

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It looks like it's Leitrim's turn to play London in 2017, with Sligo going to New York. So Sligo will play in the (very) preliminary round, having to play 4 games to win Connacht, and I think they'll end up on the other side of the draw as well. They'd be the team closest to our level, so they'd be our best chance to advance. So no Sligo in 2017; if we get past London, maybe I'd like us to play the Rossies, our blood will be up as always, but I won't miss another post-communion party for it (seriously). Although the Rossie game would be in June.

Monaghan or Cavan away in Clones/Breffni would be a great draw. Either would be a serious tough battle for Fermanagh but neither would beyond us in terms of getting a win. (always two nice spots for pre/post match pints and banter and both only down the road!)
Like most other posters, I'd prefer not to have yet another prelimanary round draw. Particularly would not fancy Antrim yet again, If they sort their act out a bit more and improve a bit on the last few years they are definately capable of pulling off a shock or two with the players they have in the County. Frank Fits and Geroid Adams are two Antrim men to the core and have the best interests of the county at heart so I would like to see them do well.
As a big admirer of Down growing up I'm sad to see them in a bit of a state and I think they will struggle hugely unless Eamon Burns can entice the Kilcoo contigent as well as 6 or 7 others back into the squad. They certainly have players within the county who can make Down competitive again but as it stands I would say alot of teams in Ulster wil have the fingers crossed to see them paired with them out of the hat.
Of course with Derrys exodous of players it remains to be seen how competitive they will be come next season, so they might prove to be a favourabe draw for someone depending on the make up of their squad. Again a sad case for a county that boasts so many fantastic footballers.
I see Tyrone really coming into their own next season and coasting Ulster if I'm honest but I hope Im wrong.

Monaghan in Omagh - they are the definition of a one man team.
Ulster will again be a straight shoot out between Tyrone and Donegal with Cavan best of the rest

Wouldn't mind getting Laois. They would be the toughest of the non seeded teams in Leinster.

As a Corkonian, in the SFC, I hope we avoid Waterford, the only minnow left to best us in recent years :)

With only three home games in the league, I'm not sure that Fermanagh and their supporters would be yearning for an away draw in the c'ship.

I would be happy to draw Down in Newry. They have not had a home draw in years and Tyrone have had some great games at a great venue.

Laoiswould be the toughest draw we could get in the first round (think 4 semi finalists from last season are seeded), would probably prefer to be eased in with an easier draw than that. Obviously would like to be kept on the other side of the draw to Dublin. Would love the draw to allow us to play Westmeath in the semifinal (if noth them Kildare).

Talking to a Antrim man few months back and his views on Adams was that he is only there to highlight his name in his own right to run as a mp, actually seems that Antrim gaa not just football were in disarray and club certainly comes before county, might have been just on disgruntled supporter, but he seemed to know the ins and outs of the county board etc.

Don't think the Antrim job would make him more high profile than just being Gerry Adams son.

Judging by our championship displays this year we are going nowhere fast, the whole club v county thing is an excuse also. If the county team was decent the players would care as much about it.

They brought in a dull ultra defensive style, it worked in February and March on bad pitches against division 4 opposition.

It got found out versus Louth in Croke Park. They were comfortably beaten against Fermanagh, with some horrible forward "play" where they ran down the wings and shot from the sidelines from about the 45m line.

They were then beaten at home to Limerick, a team who hadn't won in about 10 games.

They scored 9 points in each of their 2 championship games.

I'd have us as being better than Carlow, Leitrim, Waterford, Wicklow and London and that's it.

As a Carlowman id love to draw Kerry in the football.

That crowd have been dodging us for years in Leinster.

I'd love Monaghan at home in Ballybofey first. A good hard battle and see how they react to being the 'away' team against us.

Just because he knows the 'ins and outs of the county board' doesn't make him the keeper of truth.

For what its worth Gearoid has always steered clear of politics and has been coaching at school and club level for quite a few years.

As for the problems of players putting club before county...well that's hardly breaking news is it!

Monaghan don't worry about going to Donegal or anywhere north of Clones for that matter. Its when we go south things go awry...

But sure they'd still need to win a semifinal before they get to play in Clones again.

Down away. Cant remember the last time we played in Pairc Elser in the championship (If ever? No game springs to mind), it would make a nice change. Tyrone in Omagh would be a very exciting draw as well.
