Replying To HomerJay:  "The club issue isn't what it used to be. It's down to the fact that the same musical chairs have taken place at board level for 40 years.

No website, no PRO- the local paper is the only release of information.

For population, interest, location & wealth- Wicklow is the biggest failure in the GAA in Ireland."
NO I AM NOT HAVING THAT AT ALL. There's no way you are stealing our hard earned mantle. HOW DARE YOU!

Ah will you relax out of that ffs, lighten up

It's a real pity because Wicklow have produced some great players down the years, I'm think of guys like Leighton Glynn from Glenealy who played both codes. It needs to start with underage players. It will be a long process before ye reap any success at intercounty level. Wicklow GAA needs to make a strong case for extra funding. It's not good for the GAA if it starts dying out in certain counties.

Funding is not the issue. It's now these funds are managed is the problem.

Current board and committee couldn't be trusted and do not understand phrases like development or the future!

It's day by day here, looking after number one, as we lose players weekly to other sports and drift from GAA due to how awfully & unfairly it's run here. Like any county we do have some natural talents but when they're not taken care of they go elsewhere.

The current funding alocated to Wicklow should be kept by Leinster- or else Leinster should oversee the spending.

We genuinely need a root & branch review and dissection.

Just to add to the whole county board incompetence in Wicklow, here's an open letter that was sent in to local newspaper:

It's an absolute disgrace what's going on at the county board level... and I don't know how it can be changed.....

So the club asked for a free weekend, were told of the fixture in March and were throw out for refusing to play it? Seems like the club's are as awkward as the county board

The club had since March to request both group games to be played together.

Wicklow need to continue focusing on the underage players and structures.

To be honest the Kilbride issue is not even in the top 10 of massive errors made in 2016 & Kilbride perhaps didn't help themselves.

The point of this thread was to highlight ongoing amateur behaviour and massive underachieving by Wicklow County Board not to focus on one recent event.

Main points-
Why does it take 10 months to play 14 league games?
Why are approx 8 juvenile teams playing football & hurling in 3 neighbouring countries?
Why has minor football in 2016 had more walkovers than matches?

That Kilbride "issue" isn't an issue at all if you ask me. Blaming the county board is a complete cop out. Go and win your bleeding match Kilbride and don't be dreaming up theories about what other teams might and might not do. Win the match and see where that leaves you and if you don't make because the other match did t go your way then tough - if ye won all your games it wouldn't matter. Writing a letter like that is pitiful in my opinion. If that's what gets a club in Wicklow up in arms with their county board, especially after being granted what they looked for (the weekend to be kept free) then I do despair for Wicklow.

Dead right onion. Whatever about the real issues if I was in the county board having to deal with nonsense like this from kilbride and other clubs I wouldn't be happy. They will always be a "small junior club" if having a session at a wedding is more important than a do or die championship game

Only one Wicklow county team won a championship match last year, the county U21 team. It appears that the county board have appointed a new management team at that level without informing the outgoing manager.

It's a bit irish for a couple of neighbouring posters to come on to the Wicklow forum and belittle Homerjay's own concerns like, Writing a letter like that is pitiful. In his/her view they were legit concerns about his/her own county.

Save Wicklow? Ah, come on, stop blaming Charlie Boorman all the time. He's hardly ever here!
